Dom nad morzem Overview

When I first stumbled across Dom nad morzem on a rainy afternoon, I was already thinking about how much better a seaside getaway would feel than a cramped city centre stay. The building sits right on the edge of the old Brzezno district, with its narrow cobbled lanes and a few old wooden houses that look like they’ve been straight out of a postcard. The address is 13 Sternicza, a street that locals love because it’s just a stone’s throw from the Motława River promenade—perfect for a midnight stroll when the city lights are reflecting on the water.

The check‑in was surprisingly breezy. The front desk staff greeted me with a warm, almost apologetic “We’re sorry for the delay, but we’re just getting the last of the linens ready,” and handed me my key with a friendly smile. I mean, honestly, most hotels in Gdańsk can feel a bit stiff, but Dom nad morzem just feels like a neighbour in your own apartment. The lobby is decorated with local art pieces—think of those quirky wooden sculptures that look like they were carved by the sea itself. The scent of fresh coffee mixed with a faint hint of sea salt from a nearby pier is oddly comforting.

My room was a sweet mix of classic and contemporary. The decor is understated but thoughtful: a big, comfortable bed, a window that frames the sound of gulls and the distant hum of the city, and a small balcony where I could sit for a cup of tea and watch the waves crash against the pier. The bathroom is surprisingly spacious for a 4‑star property, with a rain shower that feels like you’re standing right on the water. The only real downside? The parking isn’t free—there’s a small lot a block away, but it’s easy to navigate, especially if you’re not driving a big car. The noise level is pretty low, even during peak tourist season; the only thing that might disturb you is the occasional traffic chime from the intersection of Sternicza and Brzezno, but it’s not that loud.

Outside, the hotel has a lovely little garden with a few potted herbs and a bench that’s perfect for people‑watching. There’s a quiet corner where you can sit and listen to the distant sea breeze. I walked out a couple of times to the nearby bakery on Gdańsk’s old market street, where I tried a classic Pierogi with a side of fresh sour cream, and the bread was still warm. The locals usually recommend the “Złota” street coffee shop for a mid‑morning espresso—just a short walk from the hotel, and the barista knows your name after a few visits.

If you’re planning a trip, remember that the peak season is June to August—lots of tourists, but the hotel still manages to keep a calm vibe. The quiet hours are a bit earlier than most places, so if you’re a light sleeper, you’ll appreciate that. The staff is always ready to recommend the best spots for a quick bite—there’s a tiny fish market on the pier that’s a must‑visit for seafood lovers. And, honestly, the whole experience feels less like a stay and more like a short, restful break. I left feeling refreshed, with the scent of sea and the memory of a friendly host still lingering. If you’re in Gdańsk and want a genuinely local, cozy spot with a beach vibe, Dom nad morzem is the place to go.

  • Dorota from Poland – 14 June 2024 (9/10)

Piękne miejsce, w sam raz na wspólny wypad z koleżankami. Polecamy, czysto, pięknie i klimatycznie.

  • Kuba from Czech Republic – 15 August 2023 (7/10)

Ubytování je 5 minut chůze na pláž a za pár korun Taxi do centra města. Parkuje se na ulici a místa je dostatek.

What could be improved: Naprosto otřesné postele.
