Żurawie – Food Hall & Stocznia by Downtown Apartments Overview

Żurawie – Food Hall & Stocznia by Downtown Apartments sits on Księdza Jerzego Popiełuszki 2, right on the edge of the old port where the sea smell still lingers in the air even after the city lights flicker. The first thing you notice is the building’s industrial charm—brick walls, exposed pipes, and those huge windows that frame the harbor like a living postcard. I found the lobby surprisingly airy; a few potted plants bring a touch of green, and the earthy scent of freshly ground coffee from the nearby Food Hall mingles with the salty breeze that drifts in from the water. The staff at the front desk were quick and friendly, though the check‑in process felt a bit rushed—maybe they’re still adapting to the influx of tourists during the summer. I got my key, and the place was ready for me almost instantly, which is a win if you’re not into long waits.

The rooms are a cozy blend of modern comfort and historic texture. The beds are king‑size and come with thick, high‑quality linens that feel like a hug after a day of walking down Gdańsk’s cobblestone streets. I had to pause a moment to appreciate the window view: the harbor, the cranes, the distant skyline of Stocznia. The room’s small kitchenette is a real plus for me; I whipped up a quick breakfast of fresh pastries from the food hall, and the aroma of freshly baked bread was a subtle reminder that you’re still in the city, not a hotel. The bathroom had a rain shower that was surprisingly deep—perfect for a quick rinse after a swim at the beach. I like that the place doesn’t try to be flashy; it just feels like a home away from home, with a few local touches like a map of the harbor circles and a handwritten note from the manager inviting you to try the pier’s best pierogi.

Getting around from there is a breeze. The nearest tram stop is just a two‑minute walk down Stary Port, and you’ll see the old shipyard’s silhouette against the morning light. I took the tram to the city center, and the ride was quiet, no heavy traffic noise, which is rare in a place as bustling as Gdańsk. Parking is a bit of a hassle—there’s no on‑site lot, so you’ll have to park on the street or in a nearby paid lot, and you’ll need to watch for the parking signs that change with the seasons. The hotel’s silence level is decent; I didn’t hear the usual city hum from my room, which is a relief after a night of street musicians. The only real drawback I noticed was the slight draft in the hallway during the night, but it’s a minor quibble in an otherwise solid stay. Overall, Żurawie – Food Hall & Stocznia by Downtown Apartments feels like a slice of Gdańsk’s industrial past wrapped in modern comfort, and I walked away with a new appreciation for the city’s harbor vibe.

    Lokalizacja

What could be improved: Budynek w trybie remontowym od rana do wieczora wiercenie i trzaskanie.

  • Donata from Poland – 4 March 2025 (8/10)

Bardzo blisko klubu B90, muzeum Solidarności, Stoczni, Foodhallu, apartament dobrze wyposażony, wygodne łóżka. Piękna łazienka.

  • Weronika from Poland – 18 February 2025 (6/10)

Perfect location for someone who doesn't want to stay in the strict city center, especially with a car (parking in the city center is paid practically 24/7) – 15 min walking distance to the old town, just next to the European Center of Solidarity and Stocznia.

What could be improved: The fact that the check in is totally online in this case was rather inconvenient. To communicate with the host there is a hotline you can call but each time you call a different person answers and there is no flow of information. The entry instructions were insufficient – we didn't get the code to enter the block itself and we got the wrong wifi code, so from the very beginning we needed to make many calls to clear things up.
The wifi wasn't working, so you couldn't actually use the TV.
On top of that when we arrived the apartment was FREEZING COLD, it obviously hasn't been heated up for a long time (something that could have been taken care of before our arrival) and the heaters weren't working. After we informed the host about that the heaters were fixed, but even while working on maximum level the apartment was cold as if air was getting through somewhere.
