Wałowa apartament Overview

Wałowa apartament sits at Wałowa 38/30, right on the edge of Gdańsk’s old quarter, where cobblestones meet the modern buzz of the Motława River. I remember stepping out of the train station, the scent of roasting coffee from a nearby café wafting through the air, and the gentle hum of traffic from the street‑car lanes. The check‑in was surprisingly quick—no long queues, just a friendly receptionist who handed me a keycard with a smile and a quick rundown of the Wi‑Fi password. I was in the room by 3 pm, still a few hours before the city’s nightlife began to thicken. The parking situation is a bit of a treasure hunt; you’ll need to hunt for a narrow street spot, but the staff will point you to a small, secure lot a block away that’s surprisingly affordable for a 4‑star place.

The apartment itself is a cozy 2‑bedroom suite that feels more like a home than a hotel. The living area opens onto a small balcony that faces a quiet courtyard, and the view of the old town’s rooftops is a gentle reminder that you’re still in the heart of the city. I loved the little touches: a handwritten welcome note, a selection of local teas, and a small stash of sea‑salted crackers—perfect for when the smell of the harbor lingers in the evening. The bed is a tufted queen with linens that feel like a cloud, but the mattress is firmer than I expected—great for people who like a bit of support. The bathroom is sleek, with a rain shower that’s strong enough to wash off the grit of the day but not so powerful that you’re swept away. There’s a small, aromatic diffuser that keeps the space smelling fresh without overpowering the natural scent of the sea breeze that sometimes sneaks in through the open windows.

What really makes this place stand out is how it plugs you into the local vibe. If you’re looking for a spot to eat, just head down Wałowa Street and you’ll find a tiny trattoria that serves the best pierogi in town—authentic, warm, and the kind of place that locals swear by. A short walk takes you to Gdańsk’s iconic St. Mary’s Church, where the bells ring at the hour and the light hits the wooden altar in a beautiful amber glow. During summer, the streets fill with tourists, but the area around the apartment stays relatively calm; you can still hear the distant clink of glasses from a nearby bar without the whole city erupting. In winter, the quiet is almost meditative—just the occasional footstep and the soft thud of snow on the cobbles. If you need a late‑night snack, the bakery on Długi Targ is open until 10 pm and offers a baguette that’s still warm and crusty from the oven. All in all, Wałowa apartament feels like a well‑kept secret—friendly, functional, and a perfect launchpad for exploring the rich tapestry of Gdańsk.

Reviews of Wałowa apartament

  • Julia from Poland – 6 April 2025 (8/10)

Obiekt w świetnej lokalizacji blisko do rynku, galerii/sklepow.

  • Danczak from Poland – 12 February 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Uszkodzony domofon

  • Ewa from Poland – 6 November 2024 (9/10)

Super mieszkanko. Wszędzie blisko . Przesympatyczna właścicielka. Polecam 😊

What could be improved: Klaustrofobiczna winda

  • Aleksandra from Poland – 7 October 2024 (9/10)

Wszystko ok, bardzo dobra lokalizacja, wszędzie blisko.

  • Areej from Poland – 16 August 2024 (9/10)

It was a great experience for the whole family, clean apartment and excellent location, I recommend it

  • Macarena from Chile – 1 April 2024 (7/10)

Well equipped kitchen and well located.
Walking distance to the city center and very close to the museum of the II world war.
It had bedsheets towels and we really apreciated the hair dryer!

What could be improved: We were expecting two bedrooms withs beds, but it was a living room with a sofa and one room with bed.
The pillows were a bit uncomfortable but we managed.

  • Aliaksandr from Poland – 15 January 2024 (4/10)

    1. Excellent location (15 minutes walk to the historical city center). It is also a relatively quiet (BUT with noisy neighbors – throughout our stay in the apartment, the neighbor above was doing renovations from 9 in the morning until 10 at night every day).
    2. The floor is quite high, providing a beautiful view from the windows. In the distance, you can see the Ferris wheel, the Second World War museum, and a beautiful bridge.
    3. Fresh cosmetic repairs in the apartment (BUT the sleeping areas are quite worn).
    4. Presence of a separate kitchen.
    5. Presence of a washing machine (BUT the absence of at least one detergent capsule for washing).
    6. Presence of a small balcony with a coffee table (which, however, is useless in winter).

What could be improved: 1. Unbearably creaky floor in the main room and in the bedroom. It is likely improperly installed, causing a terrible creaking sound when walking on it – it's hard to imagine what the neighbors below feel every day.
    2. Bedsheets and towels had a disgustingly bad smell. They were poorly laundered and inadequately dried, acquiring a sour and musty odor.
    3. Very dirty dishes. This is the first time I've encountered this; the cabinets contained literally unwashed glasses and utensils (photos attached).
    4. Not quite accurate description of apartment features: in reality, they consist of a separate kitchen, a main room (with a fold-out double sofa), and a separate bedroom (with a small fold-out sofa + a double bed).
    5. No dishwasher – guests have to wash dishes by hand.
    6. Water heating with a gas heater – not sure if it's a drawback, but sometimes it had some time to adjust the water temperature.

    Please note!
    – As of the writing of this review (2024-01-15), there is not a single real photo of the exterior of the house in the accommodation listing. It is quite an old panel building from the 1960s.
    – There is no access code for the intercom at the entrance of the building; the door is opened with a separate small key on a keychain. We found out about this after a rude response from the owner.

  • Marita from Denmark – 17 September 2023 (5/10)

Nice view from the balcony. Furniture nice.

What could be improved: The keys are very bad, you need a lot of time to open the door, especily the door to enter the house. Ofyen we could not open it and had to call others for opening the door. There are not 2 bedrooms, there is a livingroom and 1 bedroom. Very enoying, because it is written and offered with 2 seperat bedrooms. It was not so clean, not enough toiletpaper. It is very noisy, neibourgs and traffic.

  • Myllymäki from Finland – 8 October 2022 (7/10)

+ good and easy arrival instructions in advance
    + the apartment was clean
    + good price/quality ratio
    + own balcony
    + good location
+ the residential area was very quiet.
    + grocery store very close.

What could be improved: – the lock on the front door didn't work very well.
    – the floor of the apartment creaked
    – There was only one roll of toilet paper in the toilet.
    – the tableware was incomplete. For example, there were no wine glasses at all.
    – Instructions in the apartment are only in Polish.

  • Joanna from United Kingdom – 19 August 2022 (6/10)

Good location, close to shops and city centre.
I like the balcony with a nice view.

What could be improved: Sofa beds were quite dirty and not comfortable to sleep for few nights. The double bed was the only comfortable bed.
