Scandic Gdańsk Overview

Scandic Gdańsk sits on Podwale Grodzkie, right where old city walls meet the modern buzz of Gdańsk. I first spotted the neon sign on a rainy evening, the kind of glow that makes you wonder if it’s trying to outshine the moon. When you step inside, the lobby feels like a quiet harbor – leather chairs, a subtle scent of sea salt, and a wall mural that captures the shifting light over Motława. Check‑in is hands‑free; the staff greet you with a friendly grin and a quick scan of your ID – no long queue, no fuss. I was there right after the summer festival, so the music from the street musicians outside was a constant backdrop, a low‑key hum that almost felt like a lullaby for the city.

The rooms are spacious, the kind of 4‑star comfort that lets you feel at home without the hotel‑hallway vibe. I stayed in a room on the second floor, and the real treat was the window view of the Old Town – the cobblestones, the tiny cafés, and that iconic St. Mary’s Church with its soaring spire. The bed was a bit firmer than I’d like, but the duvet was thick and warm, a perfect reset after a day of wandering. The bathroom, though a touch smaller than I’d hoped, had a rain shower that made you forget you’re in a hotel. The in‑room TV was surprisingly quiet, and the Wi‑Fi was fast enough to stream a Netflix episode without buffering – something no one says about hotels in Poland, but it’s true for this place.

I love how the hotel’s location feels like an insider’s shortcut. Right across the street, you’ll find the historic Monasteries’ Square, and a few blocks away, the Green Market – a spot where locals swap fresh produce for a slice of pierogi from a vendor that’s been there for half a century. I parked my scooter on the free surface parking right next to the building; the staff hand me a card that says “no fee for the first hour” – a small kindness that keeps the city’s traffic frustrations at bay. I woke up early on a Thursday, and the noise was minimal – the city was still sleeping, the only sounds were the morning chatter of the café on the corner and the occasional bell from the nearby church. In the evenings, the alleyways light up with the glow of lanterns, and the scent of roasted chestnuts mixes with the briny air from the harbor. The staff at the front desk are always ready with a quick recommendation: “Try the local fish soup at the bistro on Szeroka Street; it’s a must.”

If there’s one thing I’d tweak, it’s the breakfast selection. It’s decent, but the pastry options are a bit limited – I’d have loved a croissant with a hint of cardamom. Still, the coffee is excellent, and the fruit platter is a pleasant surprise during the early spring. For anyone looking for a 4‑star stay that feels like a local’s apartment rather than a corporate hotel, Scandic Gdańsk offers the right mix of comfort, convenience, and that subtle charm that only a city with centuries of history can provide. Whether you’re exploring the Royal Route by day or sipping a glass of local wine by the harbor at night, this place feels like a friendly stop in the middle of your adventure. The rating of 8.7? It’s a solid reflection of how the hotel stays true to its surroundings and to the needs of travelers who want more than just a room. The next time you’re in Gdańsk, consider dropping by – you’ll hear the waves, feel the breeze, and maybe, just maybe, discover a new favorite street corner.

  • Maria from United Kingdom – 21 May 2025 (9/10)

    Location.

What could be improved: A bit pricy for what the standard and size of the room

  • Ana from Denmark – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

    Everything was just PERFECT!

  • Valentina from Italy – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

Walking distance from the city centre, public garage nearby. Big and comfortable room

  • Owen from Ireland – 27 April 2025 (8/10)

It may be the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. The bed was very comfortable. It's in a great location for accessing both the city centre and public transport to go to other areas like Sopot.

What could be improved: It needs a card access system for the bedroom areas, as somebody can come from the street to the guest room areas without being noticed or stopped.

TV channels don't work – there's a signal issue with the connection. It didn't have some modern features you would expect at a 4 star hotel like a coffee machine, smart TV or usb outlets. I would say it felt more like a 3 star hotel

  • Elena from Russia – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

Great location, nice and clean. At that time I had a fridge in my room which was very important for me. Some rooms have not. Should be great if I always have an access to it.

  • Rungthip from Thailand – 20 April 2025 (9/10)

Best location near bus stop from Gdansk airport and central train station. Good choices of breakfast. Sparking clean and quiet room. Convenient hotel to stay as a base to hop around town.

  • Ching from Taiwan – 1 April 2025 (9/10)

If you on a budget travel and solo travel, the location, the cleanness, the quietness during night, the breakfast are excellent. Although the room and bathroom looked too simple if you are expecting a nice warm setting. The ventilation was strong and noisy so I turned it off since the temperature was low at night, and it turned out being a nice sleep for me, with a small simple bed but warm bed linen. The following breakfast experience were outstanding when sitting next to windows facing the classical-style central railway station. Overall, I would recommend it for budget and average-standard travelers.

  • Margret from Iceland – 28 March 2025 (9/10)

Wonderful staff. I happened to forget my airpods in my room when checking out, the staff found them for me and helped me get them shipped back to me. Extremely helpful and nice personnel. The room was also very nice, vey clean and it had a bathtub which we really appreciated. The location is also excellent, within walking distance to Forum Galleria and the old town. We will definately come back!
