Scala City Center Apartments & Studio by Lion Apartments Overview

Scala City Center Apartments & Studio by Lion Apartments sits snugly at 60C Łąkowa, right where the cobblestones of Gdańsk’s Old Town feel a heartbeat away. When I first walked in, the smell of freshly baked rye from the bakery on Szczęśliwy Street hit me, and the walls were painted in warm neutrals that made the place feel like a home you’re invited to stay in for weeks. The check‑in was surprisingly smooth – the receptionist gave me a QR code and a quick walkthrough of the Wi‑Fi password (you know what, the QR was actually a bit of a puzzle, but I got it in under a minute). The staff were friendly, though a few of them seemed a little preoccupied with another guest, so you might have to nudge them a bit if you need something right away.

The studio itself is a clever blend of comfort and practicality. It’s a bit bigger than the standard hotel room, with a kitchenette that comes with a decent coffee machine – perfect for those mornings when you want to brew something strong before heading to the market. The bed is a real find – a memory‑foam mattress that still feels like a cloud, and the linens are crisp, not too tight. The balcony is a highlight: look out, and you’ll see the spires of St. Mary’s Basilica and the distant shimmer of the Baltic Sea. The city is alive around you – the chatter of tourists, the clinking of glasses from the bar on the third floor, and the occasional rumble of a tram passing by. Noise-wise, it’s a bit closer to the nightlife than you’d expect, but the walls are well‑insulated, so you’ll only hear muffled laughter and the occasional saxophone. The quiet hours are around 10 pm, after which the street lights flicker on and the city’s pulse slows.

Parking can be a bit of a hunt. There’s a paid lot a block away, but it fills up fast on weekends. Street parking is possible, though you’ll need to keep an eye out for the “no parking after 6 pm” signs that locals swear by. The place offers free parking on the premises for guests who bring a car, but you’ll need to ask about the exact spot – the staff usually know where the spots are, but it’s worth double‑checking. If you’re traveling during the summer months, the city center can get pretty busy; the tram lines are crowded, and the cafés spill onto the sidewalks. But if you’re a night owl, you’ll love the way the city lights dance on the old stone, and the fresh sea breeze that wafts through the open windows. Honestly, it’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’re in the middle of a living postcard, with a side of real‑world practicality. And if you’re looking for a short walk to the beach, it’s only about a 15‑minute tram ride away – a perfect balance between city vibes and sea air.

Exploring Gdansk offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Poland’s maritime heart, from its magnificent Gothic churches to its amber workshops and legendary shipyards where Solidarity was born.

What could be improved: CAUTION ! Make sure you get the apartment you that you actually booked.
We booked an apartment for a week, specifically one with an inner courtyard view. The apartment we were directed to in our instructions had windows and balcony looking on a giant building site full of huge noisy machines, clouds of dust and bad smell. The next day after we arrived we communicated with the Lion office that we want the apartment we had booked. They answered: "We put you in an upgraded apartment because the one you wanted has broken pipes." Now, really?!! Why didn't they give us the information beforehand? No sorry, no apology. We tried for four days to be moved to an apartment where we can at least open the windows. The office was totally impassive, repeating all the time that we got an upgraded apartment instead. On the fifth day (Monday morning) we finally got our courtyard location for our last three nights in Gdansk. The office employees were unhelpful
