Podewils Old Town Gdansk Overview
If you ever find yourself wandering down Szafarnia, you’ll spot the modest, yet unmistakable façade of Podewils Old Town Gdansk. It’s that little slice of polished charm tucked between the old brick buildings of the Old Town and the newer, sleek offices on Długa. The first thing that gets you—honestly— is the way the lobby hums with the distant chatter of tourists and locals alike, and the faint scent of freshly brewed coffee that drifts from the barista’s corner. I remember logging in for the first time and the front desk lady, with a warm smile, gave me a digital key and a quick rundown of the city’s best hidden corners: the quiet courtyard at Zamenhofia, the little bakery by the port that sells cinnamon rolls with a hint of sea salt, and the best time to catch the sunset from the marina. She even slipped in a map with a hand‑drawn note saying “parking near the city library is best early in the morning.”
The rooms themselves feel like a step back into a different era, but with all the comforts you’d expect from a 5‑star place. The bed is that big, cloud‑soft mattress that makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a cabin in the mountains, only you’re in the middle of a bustling city. I’ve noticed that the noise level is pretty steady—you’ll hear the city’s rhythm, the distant horns, and the occasional street performer, but the walls keep it at a level that lets you rest easy. Parking is a bit of a treasure hunt, honestly. There’s a small underground lot right next to the hotel that’s usually full on weekends, but if you get there early enough, you snag a spot and save yourself the hassle of searching the alleys. The staff were super helpful in finding a spot when I had a late check‑out; they even offered me a complimentary bottle of water because their policy is—well—pretty thoughtful.
What really makes Podewils Old Town Gdansk stand out is the little touches that show the staff actually know the city’s pulse. During a rainy afternoon, I was sipping the hotel’s house espresso, and the barista told me about the best spot to take a short walk—just a block away—where the streetlights flicker over the cobblestones and you can hear the gentle splash of the sea. The breakfast spread is a local favorite: rye bread, pickled herring, and a platter of smoked salmon that’s crisp and buttery. I’ll admit, the Wi‑Fi can be a bit flaky right on the 10th stair, but that’s a minor quibble in a city that’s full of surprises. All in all, staying at Podewils Old Town Gdansk feels like having a secret ally in the heart of Gdańsk, and I’m already planning my next trip back to share this hidden gem with anyone who’s ready to explore beyond the postcard view.

The location is really nice because it's kind of quiet. But it does take about 10 minutes to walk to the Old Town, just be prepared. Magda was very helpful and friendly. The hotel really has a great old world feel.

Staff were attentive, professional and went out of their way to make our stay perfect in this charming boutique hotel. The position is perfect with a fabulous view. Rooms and bathrooms immaculately clean and top of the range. We were given a VIP reception on arrival and throughout our stay. The hotel has history and character.

Very nice historical building on the river, close to the ciry center of Gdansk. Staff are very friendly, we let our luggage there before check in and after check out without any issue, they advised on public transport and spoke good English. The room was quite spacious, beautifully furnished and clean. It was warm enough and the bathroom was big and well equipped (we appriacted the baththub :)). Overall very good value for money considering that Gdansk is quite touristic and expensive compared to other Polish cities.

This place has gone above and beyond To make my stay feel like home. I honestly think this was the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I can’t tell the secrets why, you must go there to find out. Their breakfast is amazing, their service was amazing. All the people were right there to help me I can not say enough about how lucky I was to stay in this little hotel. I would never stay anywhere else if I were to go there again. It’s a great location, the accommodations are out of this world. I got a canal view and it was so beautiful. I honestly felt like a queen there. It’s a boutique hotel so it’s small but the lady serving breakfast every morning after the first day, knew exactly where I liked to sit and coffee And how I wanted my eggs. The selection of food was amazing too.
What could be improved: There was not one simple thing I can say that was negative about this hotel. It’s located right across the canal from old town… and the Rooms, hotel and aervice Was amazing
