Pobookowane Barbary DeLux Old Town Overview

Pobookowane Barbary DeLux Old Town sits right on 11 świętej Barbary, smack in the heart of Gdańsk’s cobblestoned Old Town. The first thing that hits you as you step out of the street is the faint scent of roasted chestnuts from the bakery on Mariacka, and the distant hum of the ferry boats on the Motława. The lobby is surprisingly cozy—think warm stone walls, a leather sofa that feels like a hug, and a fireplace that crackles in the evenings. Check‑in is quick; the front desk person greets you with a friendly “Dzień dobry!” and hands over a small wooden keychain shaped like the Gdańsk Crane, which I swear is a must-have souvenir. Parking isn’t a hassle either; there’s a small underground lot two blocks away, and the staff will let you know the exact spot, so you won’t waste time looking for a space.

When you finally settle into the room, you’ll notice the floor-to-ceiling windows that frame a lovely view of the bustling Długi Targ. The décor is a mix of modern chic and traditional Polish motifs—think sleek furniture paired with hand‑painted ceramics from the local market. The bed is a dream; a mattress that feels like a cloud, and the sheets are crisp enough that you can feel the texture change as you lay down. The bathroom is a sanctuary with a deep soaking tub, and a small tub of lavender‑scented soap that makes you less likely to forget how to relax. The noise level is surprisingly low, even when the city’s chatter reaches the windows, because they’ve installed thick, sound‑proof windows and the building itself is a few floors above the busy street.

I spent a whole afternoon wandering around the Old Town, and honestly, the hotel made it easy to do so. The concierge gave me a street‑by‑street guide that included hidden gems like the tiny café on Gdańsk’s hidden alley, where they serve the best pierogi you’ll ever taste. For those who love history, just a five‑minute walk takes you to St. Mary’s Church with its impressive organ, and the nearby St. Mary’s Tower offers a panoramic view that’s worth the climb. If you’re traveling during the high season, you’ll appreciate that the hotel staff is prepared for crowds—there’s a dedicated desk for early check‑in and a small lounge where you can wait for a key if the front desk is busy. The only minor critique? The breakfast buffet could use a bit more variety in the pastries, but the croissants are still fresh and buttery.

Overall, staying at Pobookowane Barbary DeLux Old Town felt like having a local friend’s apartment in the middle of a bustling city. The staff were genuinely helpful, the amenities were on point, and the location was perfect for exploring Gdańsk’s historic streets on foot. If you’re looking for a place that feels both modern and rooted in the city’s heritage, this is the spot. Just be sure to bring a pair of comfortable shoes—you’ll be walking a lot—and consider staying during the quieter winter months if you want a little more peace and quiet.

Reviews of Pobookowane Barbary DeLux Old Town

  • Emily from United States – 20 August 2024 (4/10)

Location was good. Apartment was clean and nicely decorated

What could be improved: So difficult to find apartment, unbearably hot and couldn’t have windows open cause all you smell are cigarettes. WiFi did not work for us. Bed in living room was not even a bed…the entire mattress moved when you move and can really cause an injury. There are so many other options that I would not recommend this property to others.

  • Modzelewska from United States – 7 August 2024 (7/10)

    Location

What could be improved: Size was smaller than expected. Not easy parking situation.

  • Lisa from Netherlands – 24 August 2023 (3/10)

Nice location and ok bathroom and kitchen.

What could be improved: Huge disappointment, wouldn't recommend anyone to make a reservation here!!! We made a reservation for three nights, but decided to leave after one night, because we slept so bad in the apartment. The mattresses are very thin and bad, you can feel the slatted base when lying on the mattress. The room gets very hot and light because of the thin curtains. There is no airconditioning and the bed is very close to the windows, so we woke up at 7 am because the room was already very light and warm (although we had the doors to the balcony open). The direct neighbors were extremely loud, but we couldn't close the doors, because the room got to hot then. Next to this, there was a very dirty toilet brush and the closet was missing a doorknob, so definitely not 4-star quality. We contacted the accommodation immediately after the first night. At first, the woman on the phone said that she couldn't do anything. She said that it was 'our opinion' and the mattresses were good, but we saw that at least one other person also complained about this (review of 9 August). Then, she offered to reimburse us the two remaining nights, but said Booking had to solve this. At last, she said that she wanted to come by to discuss solutions with us. We let her know that since we were on a holiday, we didn't want to waste time on this. She then said she was willing to buy a topper for the mattress, but we had to tell her beforehand that this would be enough and we wouldn't complain anymore. We let her know that we could not tell her that without knowing if the topper was actually good and what she was going to do about the other issues we had. She was very unpleasant over the phone and didn't take us seriously at all, very bad service. After Booking contacted them, they were not willing to reimburse us for the two remaining nights, although the woman did say they would over the phone.

  • Mindraugas from Lithuania – 20 September 2022 (8/10)

Perfect location. Well equipped. Quiet appartment.

  • Gosia from United Kingdom – 14 September 2022 (8/10)

incredible place, lovely staff – will book again!

  • Klara from New Zealand – 1 September 2022 (9/10)

Fantastic location, beautiful, modern and comfortable place. Host is very forthcoming and easy to talk to.

  • Mat from Israel – 14 August 2022 (8/10)

The apartment is nice and clean, it is pretty well equipped and in very good condition. The location is also good, within a five minute walk to the old city.

What could be improved: We were there in August and the apartment became unbearably hot during the day. There are no fans or air conditioners in the apartment, and when we asked the owner if there is anything that can be done about it (e.g., bring us a couple of fans), we were told that that's what there is. We also wanted to leave our luggage in the apartment between 11:00 and 14:00, the time we were supposed to leave to the airport and were refused. Finally, although the location is good, it is not excellent, and the apartment is in a housing complex which although new lacks charm and character.

  • Henrik from Sweden – 5 August 2022 (8/10)

it is 3 rooms and not far at all from old town

  • Laura from Latvia – 27 July 2022 (8/10)

The apartment is located very close to Old Town in a new building. The surroundings are quiet and our 2-years old groupmate enjoyed a lot the play ground in the inner yard. The Two bedroom apartment was spacious for 6 persons and comfortable. The Luxury apartment was a bit two small for 6 persons, but we could join our friends in the other apartment for breakfast and evening drink.

What could be improved: It was quite complicated to find the correct apartment and navigate in the underground parking.
