The front desk of Piwna Number 1 was a quick, friendly knock‑on, and the staff handed me a key with a wink that said, “You’re in good hands.” The check‑in was almost breezy—no long lines, just a pleasant chat with the manager who mentioned the upcoming summer festival in the Old Town. I mean, honestly, the hotel is at the heart of the action but not in a way that feels cluttered; it’s just a block from Dluga Street, and you can hear the distant hum of trams and the clatter of market stalls.

The room itself felt like a small, well‑kept cabin on the sea. I was surprised at the depth of the soundproofing; the only noise that seeped in was the soft chime of bells from St. Mary’s Church in the distance, which, I’ll say, adds a touch of charm rather than a nuisance. The bed was plush, the linens crisp, and the view of the harbor from the window was a subtle reminder that you’re just a few steps away from the Old Town’s cobblestone. The bathroom had a glass shower that felt like a spa, but the water pressure was decent—not too hard, not too weak. Parking is a bit of a hassle—there’s a small paid lot nearby, but you often have to walk a block to find a spot, which is fine if you’re not a car person. The hotel does offer a free bicycle rack, and I ended up renting a bike from the local shop next door to explore the scenic way down to the marina. The staff were helpful, recommending the best coffee place on Piwna street that serves a latte with a hint of cardamom—great for a morning pick‑up.

Dining at Piwna Number 1 is a low‑key affair. The breakfast buffet is more like a cozy spread of local pastries, fresh fruit, and a selection of cheeses that could make any foodie smile. The real highlight, however, is the small bar on the second floor where you can sip a gin that’s been brewed right in Gdańsk’s own distillery. I had a late‑night espresso that left me feeling like I’d just finished a day of wandering. If you’re looking for a proper dinner, the restaurant next door—just across the street—is a hidden gem that serves pierogi and smoked fish with a side of local honey. I’ve never been a fan of overly fancy restaurants, so the authenticity of the flavors and the relaxed atmosphere made the meal feel like a home‑cooked supper.

What I love most about Piwna Number 1 is how it blends the energy of a city center with a quiet, almost secretive vibe. The hotel’s location means you’re never far from the bustling market on Dluga, the serene Gdańsk Shipyard, or the historic Main Town, but the building itself gives you a retreat from the city’s constant buzz. The staff’s local knowledge was invaluable; they told me about the best time to catch the sunset over the Motława River—just when the sky turns that buttery orange that only happens in early autumn. The overall vibe is relaxed, welcoming, and a little bit like a friend’s apartment—comfortable, not over‑the‑top, and you can feel the real spirit of Gdańsk in every corner. For anyone planning a trip that’s part culture, part relaxation, this place will be a solid, no‑frills anchor to your adventures.   The apartment is as described and depicted in the photos. Very clean and tidy. The apartment has everything you need and a very nice touch is that coffee, tea, sugar plus some spices etc., and dishwasher tabs are provided. There were also shower and shampoo products and plenty of toilet rolls in the bathroom. And plenty of maps and tourist info material.
  The main advantage is the central location, about a 15-minute walk from the main station. Closest tram/bus stop Brama Wyznna (Golden Gate) – 6-7 minutes. There are several small supermarkets nearby on Dluga. According to the tourist information office the currency exchange bureau (Kantor) with the best rate is the one you can see on Piwna from the kitchen. We also liked the cosy pub-like bar Café Balsam (Piwna 84) for a drink in the evening.

  What could be improved: Getting into the courtyard and the apartment was a bit of a pfaff, but manageable.
  We were 2 people, but I see it says the apartment can accommodate 8 people, which seems to me not feasible. There are 2 good-sized bedrooms, each with a double bed; one room facing the street, which can be loud at night and with a (too) soft mattress; the other quieter, facing the rather ugly courtyard and rubbish bins, with a (too) hard matttress. There are venetian blinds so no need to look onto the street or courtyard.
  Also, with one small bathroom that could be a struggle for more than 3-4 people.
  There would certainly need to be more than the 4 sets of crockery and cutlery, which makes it difficult to fill the dishwasher sensibly even if it's only 2 people. And the table in the kitchen/dining room seats 4.
  Also, those with sensitivities or allergies to aromas should be aware that there are a lot of aroma dispensers with intense scents strewn about, which hit you as soon as you enter the apartment and may trigger headaches or migraines.

  Appartamento molto comodo con tutto il necessario, camere enormi e letti comodi, e poi sei proprio in centro.
  
  What could be improved: Quasi tutte le attrazioni ( musei, chiese etc.) Chiudono troppo presto e alcune con prezzi troppo alti per quello che offrono, così come i ristoranti.Comunque Danzica è una bella città che ha molto da offrire.

  Absolutely exeptioal property! Super comfy and super clean. Right in the Old Town but quiet when windows closed. Very spacious. Great contact with the host. Excellent instructions on tricky entrance door.

  Really nice, clean apartment located in the heart of Gdansk! Owner was really friendly and communicated well, gave lots of recommendations on how to experience the city like locals. Was a lovely trip, would happily stay at piwna no.1 again
