Old Town Residence Gdansk Overview

Old Town Residence Gdansk sits right on ul. Św. Ducha, a stone’s throw from the bustling heart of Gdańsk. Walking out of the front door, you’re immediately hit with that unmistakable mix of old brick and fresh coffee—there’s a little café on the corner, Old Town Residence Gdansk’s own corner, that serves the best oat milk latte in town. I mean, you can actually taste the difference between the traditional and the vegan options; the barista whips it up with a smile that says she’s proud of her craft. The first thing you notice is the crisp, slightly damp air that smells faintly of the Gdańsk river and the distant scent of freshly baked rye bread from the bakery on Mariacka Street—just a block away.

The check‑in process was surprisingly smooth. The front desk staff, two locals with a knack for remembering names, made the whole thing feel like a quick, friendly chat rather than a corporate transaction. They let you know that the key is a simple card that slides in; no long lines, no “hold up, please.” Parking is a bit of a scavenger hunt—there’s no dedicated parking lot, but you can snag a spot on the street a few blocks down, usually by sunset. I found that the street signs were clear, and the local residents were friendly enough to point out a few quieter lanes if you’re worried about noise. Speaking of noise, the hotel isn’t in the middle of a bustling square, so you’re far enough away to hear the city’s rhythm—like the clatter of tram wheels, distant murmur of conversations, and the occasional honk—yet close enough to feel the heart of Old Town without the constant roar of traffic.

The rooms themselves feel like a cozy, well‑prepped hideout after a day of exploring. The mattress is firm but not hard, and the sheets have that buttery softness you only get from a boutique hotel. The bathroom is a miniature spa, with a rain shower that’s surprisingly powerful and a set of local soaps scented like lemon and sea salt. I mean, you could stay in there for a while and just breathe in that sea‑salted air, which is a nice contrast to the dry, cool air that hits you when you step outside to watch the sunset over the Motława River. The balcony—yes, they actually have balconies on some floors—is a personal secret spot; you can sit there with a cup of coffee and watch the world go by, with the old stone walls of Gdańsk’s medieval buildings framing the scene.

The food at the in‑house restaurant is worth mentioning. They serve a breakfast buffet that includes the classic Polish “jajecznica” (scrambled eggs with onions) served on rye toast, and the pastries—croissants that are buttery and flaky, as well as a surprisingly good potato cake. For lunch, they have a small but dynamic menu featuring pierogis, soups, and a “cold plate” with smoked fish and fresh greens—perfect for a quick bite before heading out. I wandered into the local fish market on the evening of my stay, and it was a sensory overload: the briny scent of the sea, the chatter of vendors, and the sight of fresh cod and herring on ice. Back at the hotel, the staff would bring you a small bottle of local craft beer, which was a nice personal touch.

One minor critique: the Wi‑Fi can be spotty when the city is packed with tourists, especially during the Christmas market season. But the signal is usually fine in the common areas, and the staff are always willing to help you find a stronger spot if you need to. That said, the overall vibe is relaxed and genuinely welcoming; you can’t help but feel like you’re staying in an old, well‑tended home rather than a chain hotel. If you’re heading to Gdańsk and want a place that feels like it’s part of the city’s fabric, Old Town Residence Gdansk is a solid choice. It’s a blend of history, comfort, and that little extra touch that makes a stay memorable. The next time you’re in town, drop by the corner café, order the latte, and you’ll know why this place feels like a home away from home.

Reviews of Old Town Residence Gdansk

  • Agate from Norway – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

Beliggenhet var fantastisk. Nytt, rent, gode senger og god plass.

What could be improved: Matlukt fra nærliggende restaurant. Noe feil med ventilasjon?

  • Sanda from Croatia – 23 April 2025 (10/10)

Great location, clean property, very quiet

  • Andrew from United Kingdom – 31 March 2025 (10/10)

A beautiful apartment of high standard in the Old Town Gdansk and perfectly situated for the WW2 museum, the Solidarity museum, the river, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, Carre four supermarket amongst others. A most perfect base to explore the beautiful Gadansk old town.

  • Ania from Australia – 15 January 2025 (6/10)

Location was great. The apartament was clean and had sufficient amount of linen. The beds were comfortable.

What could be improved: There was a persistent smell of food in the bathroom coming from the restaurants below. This was unfortunately getting into the apartment. The kitchen equipment was limited.

  • Nina from Norway – 28 July 2024 (9/10)

The location was tremendous, right in the middle of the old Town with lovely cafees on the ground floor, yet no noise. Very chic, well organised apt., clean and more than sufficient supply of toiletries, towels and bed linnens. The host was fantastic, let us check in many hrs before normal. And expeditiously provided us a fan when it was a bit hot in the living room. The kitchen was well equipped, and coffee and bottled water was generously provided as a compliment by the host. Any questions were answered swiflty.

What could be improved: The air condition was quite noisy and could only cool one room, and most higher floor apt. do get a bit hot in the warmer summer months. An upgrade of the air condition, or even a second one to cover the living room and bedroom number 2, would raise my rating to a sure 10.
Besides that, it was a apt I would recomment to anyone. And some of the apt had spacious balconies, which for sure is what I would go for the next time. Then again, the cosy, nice cafees on the ground floor made up for not all apt having balconies.

  • Barry from United Kingdom – 20 February 2024 (10/10)

Excellent reception for going beyond to help me. Much appreciated. Second stay and consistently excellent. Pool is beautifully maintained but cold initially.

What could be improved: nothing to dislike.

Great location. Modern and clean apartment.

What could be improved: Shower . The water pressure was uneven.

  • Janulaitis from Lithuania – 18 May 2023 (10/10)

What could be improved: need not smoked rooms , but all ok

  • Anonymous from Norway – 9 February 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: Had some problem with the bathroom-sink
