Old Town Paradise Lost by Downtown Apartments Overview

Old Town Paradise Lost by Downtown Apartments tucked into the maze of cobblestone alleys around Grobla I gave me that instant “you’re in the right place” feeling—like stepping out of a postcard into a living, breathing slice of Gdańsk. I remember the moment the concierge waved me over with a grin that said, “You’ll like this place.” The building itself is a tidy, gray façade that’s been there since the late 20th century, but the lobby’s warm lighting and the faint scent of freshly ground coffee instantly turned it into a cozy refuge after a day of wandering.

Check‑in was quick—no long queue, just a friendly staff member who handed me a keycard with a wink. They offered a small bag of local pastries and an espresso to get the day started, which I took to a window seat overlooking the narrow, winding street of Grobla. The room was on the third floor, so the city’s hum—cars, bicycles, the occasional shout from a street vendor—was a low, comforting background. I did notice the Wi‑Fi signal was a tad patchy, especially in the corner where the wall meets the window, but the hotel’s own network was fast enough for a quick check of travel blogs. The bed was surprisingly plush for a four‑star spot, and the ensuite bathroom had a shower that sang a steady, soothing rain‑like roar. Honestly, I could have stayed in that room for a week just for that vibe.

The real charm, though, is outside the building. Walking down Grobla I, you’ll pass the old brick warehouses that now house quirky cafés and art galleries—perfect for a leisurely brunch. A few blocks away, the Royal Route offers a picturesque stroll from St. Mary’s Church to the bustling Long Market (Ulica Długa), where the smell of hot pierogi and freshly grilled fish fills the air. I took a detour to the nearby Gdańsk Old Town, and the sunset over the Motława River painted the sky in gold—felt like a quiet, almost secret moment that only locals know to treasure. Parking can be a hassle in the Old Town, but the hotel’s own parking lot behind the building (you’ll need a city permit to use it) saved me from circling the block for twenty minutes. Noise-wise, the building’s soundproofing is decent, but the city’s nightlife tends to carry through after midnight, so I set my alarm early on the third night to avoid the late‑night chatter.

Overall, Old Town Paradise Lost by Downtown Apartments is a sweet spot that feels both authentic and comfortable. It’s not a tourist trap; it’s a place where the locals’ rhythm, the city’s history, and the simple pleasure of a good coffee intersect. If you’re planning a visit during the summer, be prepared for the bustling crowds around the Old Town, but trust me, the quiet hours after 11 pm bring a calm that makes you feel like you’re the only one in the city. The staff’s hospitality, the thoughtful little touches, and the proximity to Gdańsk’s cultural gems make this place a real find—you’ll want to come back just to hear the city’s stories at night.

Reviews of Old Town Paradise Lost by Downtown Apartments

  • Anja from Germany – 22 July 2024 (8/10)

Sehr gute Lage…direkt in der Altstadt.

What could be improved: Wir hatten übersehen, dass es keinen Fernseher gibt. Das war aber letztlich gut für uns. Das Doppelbett war bisschen klein.

  • Renni from Finland – 21 June 2024 (9/10)

Very nice interior, well designer. Location is very good. Artbooks were pleasant surprise.

What could be improved: Bathroom was quite small, but enough for us.

  • Josh from United Kingdom – 17 June 2024 (8/10)

Loved how spacious it was, the unusual decor and the location in the square

What could be improved: The noise from outside and other apartments in the block carries through loudly. Also needs a little renovation, the curtains and poles were in need of repair, loose wooden floor tiles and there is a projector screen but no projector which would have been useful in the absence of a tv

  • Daviti from Georgia – 28 January 2024 (9/10)

Very clean place, amazing location, easy access, however no wifi, but it was not an issue.

What could be improved: There was no wifi, but not a big issue for me personally.

  • Laura from United Kingdom – 4 January 2024 (7/10)

It was in a perfect location and the decoration was absolutely beautiful (if a little poorly maintained).

What could be improved: The wifi didn’t work. There was also a projector screen but no means to play anything on it so that was really disappointing. The floor was also considerably damaged which led to me tripping over. It’s entirely inappropriate to just cover something like that up with a rug!

  • Edgaras from Norway – 1 January 2024 (6/10)

    Apartment is in perfect location.

What could be improved: Don’t have internet.
    Bathroom sink very little
A lot off damage on floors
    Need to clean more apartment.

  • Kristina from Lithuania – 9 November 2023 (8/10)

The apartment are just wonderful, stylish, mixed. You need some more time to explore it including great books there. Location is great as well.

What could be improved: No internet and this problem haven't been solved in three days. This was very disappointing.
Poor communication. No communication at all on a last day. I even couldn't understand if their office works and if I can leave our luggages there.

  • Iryna from Ukraine – 30 October 2023 (9/10)

    Расположение квартиры, дизайн, дистанционное поселение

What could be improved: Wi Fi не работал,

  • Olgierd from Poland – 10 October 2023 (9/10)

    Lokalizacja.

What could be improved: Drobne usterki, bez znacsenia.

  • Prq77 from United Kingdom – 18 September 2023 (9/10)
