Old Town Długa by NorthSide Apartments Overview
Old Town Długa by NorthSide Apartments sits on Długa 5, right in the heart of Gdańsk’s historic old town. If you’re strolling past the cobblestones, you’ll spot the building’s classic façade—iron balconies, a little green that’s always blooming. I checked in around 3 pm, and honestly, the front desk staff was surprisingly friendly for a 4‑star place. No long lines, just a quick swipe of your ID and a map of the city that had a few eye‑catching spots marked in red. They handed me a keycard that looked like a piece of art, and a small booklet with local coffee spots—great for a quick espresso before the night falls.
After a quick walk, the hotel’s lobby was like a cozy living room, not the sterile hotel vibe you sometimes find. The lighting was warm, the rug felt soft underfoot, and there was a faint scent of fresh bread from the bakery that opens next door—yes, they actually have a bakery on the ground floor. I heard the co‑workers talk about how the bakery’s rye bread is the best in town, so that’s a win. Check‑in was smooth, but if you’re a night owl, you might want to ask about the quiet hours. Honestly, the place is pretty quiet from 10 pm, but the street below can get a little lively around 11 pm—you’ll hear the clatter of plates from the nearby “Pod Łosami” restaurant. Nothing too loud, just the normal city buzz.
The rooms themselves are a mix of modern and historic charm. The bed was super comfortable, with a mattress that’s actually not too firm—just enough support for a good night’s sleep. I liked that the windows opened to a view of the street, so I could hear the distant hum of the Motława River. The bathroom has this vintage tile pattern that you don’t see in most hotels, and the shower’s water pressure is decent—good for a quick rinse after a day of exploring. The only critique? The Wi‑Fi signal can be spotty in the corner where the room meets the stairwell, so if you’re a digital nomad, bring a portable hotspot. The noise level from the street is decent, especially if you’re on the lower floor; if you go up, the city’s sounds are muffled by the brick walls—just a gentle reminder that Gdańsk is alive even at night.
Parking is a bit of a hassle because the street’s narrow, but they do have a small underground garage a block away, and the staff will guide you there. I didn’t find it too expensive, but I know locals say there are cheaper options a few streets down if you’re willing to walk a bit. The area around Długa 5 is packed with history—just a two‑minute walk gives you St. Mary’s Church, the European Solidarity Centre, and the iconic Gdańsk Crane. The best part is that the hotel’s own street, Długa, is lined with cafés and craft beer pubs. I stopped at a small place called “Café Trzy Kawiarenki”—the owner actually greeted me by name, which felt like a personal touch that you rarely get in a tourist spot.
If you’re traveling during the summer, expect the streets to fill up with tourists, but the hotel’s location means you’re never too far from the harbor. In winter, the city turns into a quieter, snow‑covered postcard—just a few minutes’ walk to the warmth of a local bakery. The staff at Old Town Długa by NorthSide Apartments are genuinely helpful—they’ll give you a list of the best local markets, like the Stary Rynek market that sells fresh pierogi. I left the place with a sense of belonging, as if I’d been a part of the Gdańsk community for a few days. And don’t forget to try the local craft beer at the pub across the street; it’s like a liquid representation of the city’s history. If you’re looking for a 4‑star experience that feels like a home away from home, Old Town Długa by NorthSide Apartments is the spot where history, comfort, and a touch of local charm all collide, and honestly, I can’t recommend it enough.
Hotels in Gdansk offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this Baltic gem, with easy access to shipyards, museums, and coastal attractions.
