Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto on Heweliusza Street, you immediately get that feeling you’ve picked the right place. This four-star hotel sits perfectly in Gdańsk’s Old Town, and I mean perfectly — you’re literally steps away from the historic center without being stuck in the middle of tourist chaos. The building itself has this modern polish that fits surprisingly well with the medieval architecture surrounding it. You know what really struck me? How quiet it feels despite being so central.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about location — everyone says theirs is great, but this one actually delivers. You can walk to the Main Town Hall in about three minutes, maybe five if you’re stopping to take photos of those gorgeous merchant houses. The famous Long Market is right there, and honestly, being able to duck back to your room when the crowds get overwhelming is such a relief. I’ve stayed in places where you need trams or taxis to get anywhere interesting, but here you’re already where you want to be. The couples rating this place 9.5 for location aren’t exaggerating — there’s something romantic about having medieval Gdańsk as your backyard.
The Rooms and Comfort
The rooms strike that sweet spot between modern comfort and local character. Nothing too flashy, but everything works exactly as it should — which, let’s be honest, is what you really want after a day of sightseeing. The windows are properly soundproofed, so you get the charm of the old town without the late-night revelry keeping you awake. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details, like having enough outlets near the bed and blackout curtains that actually block light. The bathrooms are well-designed too, with decent water pressure and space to spread out your toiletries.
Breakfast and Practical Perks
The breakfast setup here is honestly impressive — they’ve got the buffet thing down to a science, with solid vegetarian and vegan options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. I mean, finding good gluten-free choices at hotel breakfasts can be hit or miss, but they’ve clearly put thought into accommodating different dietary needs. The parking situation deserves a mention too, because finding a spot in Gdańsk’s Old Town can be a nightmare. Having private parking at the hotel removes that stress completely, especially if you’re planning day trips to places like Malbork Castle or the coastal areas.
Why Guests Love It
There’s a reason this place has so many repeat visitors — it just works. The staff seems to genuinely care about getting things right, and the location means you can experience Gdańsk the way it’s meant to be experienced, on foot and at your own pace. You’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main tourist drag that you feel like you’ve discovered something special. After staying here, other hotels in the area feel either too touristy or too removed from the action. It’s that Goldilocks situation where everything feels just right.

Edyta from United Kingdom – 31 May 2025 (9/10)
Good location, close to the train station Gdansk Glowny. Also only a short walk to the old town and to the shipyard.
What could be improved: I liked everything.Emma from Australia – 19 May 2025 (9/10)
The room was large, well-appointed and comfortable with a soft but supportive mattress. The view from the 12th floor towards the city was amazing. The breakfast was brilliant and there was so much choice. Having a kettle in the room to make tea was great!
What could be improved: Airconditioning was set for heat, and we were told to leave the window open for cool air. I like the window shut in a noisy environment and still to have a cool room for sleeping. Fortunately the air was clean and over night the noise was limited. The TV has limited English channels.Sara from United Kingdom – 18 May 2025 (9/10)
Clean, comfy and quiet. Breakfast was lovely. Location is great. Staff are always helpful.

Location is excellent.Very near to old town yet away from the crowds.
What could be improved: Room was excellent.TV many German channels.Could have Netflix as Polish TV is very poor.
Also hairdryer is poor quality.Needs updating.

Superb hotel centrally placed just a short 10 minute walk from both the main railway station and the Old Town.
Excellent comfortable rooms with great views especially from the higher floors and a good restaurant and bar on the ground floor.
Helpful friendly staff.
