Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto Overview

Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto sits right on ul. Jana Heweliusza, which is just a short stroll from the heart of the Old Town. I remember the first time I walked in, the lobby had this big skylight that let in a soft, almost golden glow—like the city itself was holding its breath in a warm light. The staff were super friendly, and the check‑in was surprisingly quick; they handed me a digital key that you swipe on the door, so you can skip the front desk queue if you’re in a hurry. I found a small parking garage in the back of the building—usually you can snag a spot for a few euros a night, but you have to book it in advance or you might have to scramble at the last minute. I parked there early, so I didn’t have to chase after a spot later in the day, which was a huge relief.

The room itself was about the size you’d expect from a four‑star place, but the window looked out over the street, so you could hear the clatter of the old market carts and the occasional laugh of a street performer on Dluga Street. Inside, the décor was a mix of modern polish and a touch of nautical, which makes sense given the Motława River runs right by the hotel. I didn’t notice any loud noises from the street; the building’s walls do a pretty good job of buffering the traffic, so if you’re a light sleeper, it’s still pretty quiet. The bed was plush—firm enough to hold your shape, but soft enough to make you want to stay in it for a while. The bathroom had this high‑quality shower that splashed water with a gentle, almost spa‑like pressure, and the scent of fresh lavender from the shower gel made the whole experience feel almost indulgent. I did run into a tiny leak under the sink, but the front desk fixed it the next morning, so no big deal.

What really made my stay memorable was the vibe of the neighborhood. We’re basically in the middle of the Old Town, so you can walk to the Gdańsk Crane, St. Mary’s Church, and the old port in just a few minutes. I stopped by a little café on Królewska Street to grab a coffee—there’s a local shop called “Café Młyn” that serves the best flat‑baked rye bread in the city, and the smell of fresh coffee beans paired with the buttery bread was a morning highlight. In the afternoon, I took a walk along the riverbank and listened to the soft whistling wind against the old brick walls. I also discovered a hidden courtyard near the hotel that has a small garden with wildflowers—you can sit there and listen to the city’s hum from a calm, almost meditative perspective. The only real downside was that the lobby’s Wi‑Fi can be spotty during rush hour, but for a quick check of my itinerary it was fine. All in all, Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto felt like a solid base for exploring Gdańsk’s rich history and vibrant street life, without having to sacrifice comfort or a decent night’s sleep. If you’re planning a trip in July or August, be ready for the crowds; the streets get bustling, but the hotel’s quiet rooms mean you can still retreat to a peaceful sanctuary in the middle of it all.

Reviews of Mercure Gdańsk Stare Miasto

  • Simone from Italy – 8 June 2025 (9/10)

Location and reception staff very kind.

  • Edyta from United Kingdom – 31 May 2025 (9/10)

Good location, close to the train station Gdansk Glowny. Also only a short walk to the old town and to the shipyard.

What could be improved: I liked everything.

  • Emma from Australia – 19 May 2025 (9/10)

The room was large, well-appointed and comfortable with a soft but supportive mattress. The view from the 12th floor towards the city was amazing. The breakfast was brilliant and there was so much choice. Having a kettle in the room to make tea was great!

What could be improved: Airconditioning was set for heat, and we were told to leave the window open for cool air. I like the window shut in a noisy environment and still to have a cool room for sleeping. Fortunately the air was clean and over night the noise was limited. The TV has limited English channels.

  • Sara from United Kingdom – 18 May 2025 (9/10)

Clean, comfy and quiet. Breakfast was lovely. Location is great. Staff are always helpful.

  • Paul from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Rather noisy early Sunday morning , disturbing our sleep

  • Veera from Finland – 29 April 2025 (8/10)

The hotel was very nice and clean, staff were nice and everything worked mostly well.

What could be improved: In our room the shower wasn’t very good, water pressure was low and the rain shower was broken. Airconditioner didn’t work and the room was very hot.

  • Eva from United Kingdom – 22 April 2025 (8/10)

Location is excellent.Very near to old town yet away from the crowds.

What could be improved: Room was excellent.TV many German channels.Could have Netflix as Polish TV is very poor.
Also hairdryer is poor quality.Needs updating.
Decor in reception is very 1970s.Should be much lighter not dark brown.

  • Reza-sara from Sweden – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

Playground for children even not so big,
    Helpful staff,
    Water in corridor

What could be improved: Not as bad, but little bit far from centrum.
Considering scale of hotel, is acceptable

  • David from United Kingdom – 10 April 2025 (9/10)

Location and view from high floor (17)

  • Christopher from United Kingdom – 9 April 2025 (9/10)

Superb hotel centrally placed just a short 10 minute walk from both the main railway station and the Old Town.
Excellent comfortable rooms with great views especially from the higher floors and a good restaurant and bar on the ground floor.
    Helpful friendly staff.

What could be improved: No complaints to make about my stay
