Mariacka Street Charm, Main Old Town by Downtown Apartments Overview
Mariacka Street Charm, Main Old Town by Downtown Apartments is tucked just a stone’s throw from the bustling Złota Street, yet it feels like a secret hide‑out you discover by accident. Walk out of the front door onto the cobbled lanes of Mariacka and the air is already heavy with the scent of fresh pierogi from the market stalls on nearby Piotrkowska. The building itself is a charming 19th‑century tenement, the façade weathered just enough to hint at history but still crisp in its lines. I remember the first night we stayed there – the hallway was dimly lit, the carpet smelled faintly of lavender and old wood, and the concierge, a spry woman named Marta, welcomed us with a warm smile that felt like an old friend’s hug.
The rooms are surprisingly airy for an old building. I remember pulling aside the curtain on my room and seeing a view of the square where the 14th‑century St. Mary’s Church stands tall, its bells ringing softly in the distance. The bed was a solid oak frame with a mattress that had the right amount of spring – not too firm, not too soft, just like the bed I used to have in my hometown. The bathroom had a deep, freestanding tub that let me soak while I listened to the distant traffic on Gdańsk’s main streets – a soundtrack that’s unique to the city. The balcony, a small space but with a view of the narrow alley where the local bakery bakes rye bread at dawn, was the real highlight; I spent my mornings there sipping a strong espresso and watching the city wake up.
Check‑in was almost an adventure in itself. The front desk was a short walk from the street, and the staff were incredibly friendly – they knew everyone in the neighborhood and even offered a quick tour of the best spots if you asked. Parking is a bit of a hassle; the closest street parking is on the side of the Old Town, and you’ll need to leave an umbrella in the slot if you’re not careful. I found a small, free parking spot on Krasiński Street, but it’s best to get there early in the morning; by mid‑afternoon, the streets are packed with scooters and cars. The noise level is moderate – you’ll hear the occasional honk from the tram but the building’s thick walls keep the city’s clamor at bay. The only critique, honestly, is that the Wi‑Fi is a bit sluggish at times, but I’m a light user and that didn’t bother me.
If you’re planning a visit, keep in mind that the area can get pretty lively during the summer festival on the square, but early mornings are wonderfully quiet. The hotel’s bar, a small, cozy corner with a few mismatched chairs, is a great place to grab a drink and chat with locals about the best pierogi spots. I’ve heard that the best pierogi are at the shop across from the square, a place locals call “Pierogarnia Królewska.” Also, the next street, Słowackiego, has a hidden gem – a tiny café that serves the best Polish tea.
All in all, Mariacka Street Charm, Main Old Town by Downtown Apartments feels like a home away from home. It’s a place where you can feel the pulse of Gdańsk – the old stone, the new hustle – and still find a quiet corner to breathe and reflect. Whether you’re a first‑timer or a seasoned traveler, this place will welcome you with its genuine warmth and a touch of that old‑town charm that only Gdańsk can offer.

Peter from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (9/10)
Clean, comfortable, good shower, liked the amenities, although didn't use them. It is a very central location with the river and the main street within a 5 minute walk. A good mix of bars and restaurants very close.
What could be improved: Nothing really, all good and would happily stay there againAkehurst from United Kingdom – 28 January 2025 (9/10)
Superb location.
What could be improved: The bathroom had an unpleasant odour.Rafal from Australia – 28 December 2024 (9/10)
Beautiful apartment, exceptionally well laid out, furnished and maintained. Ideal location. The property management was excellent, easy to contact and communicate with, an absolute pleasure to deal with. Our experience here was honestly first class.
Brian from New Zealand – 13 November 2024 (8/10)
Location was excellent. Very clean and well appointed. Washing machine is actually a washer dryer.
What could be improved: Before arrival we were given the door code and instructions. It took us over and hour to find the apartment as in the booking and confirmation sheet the address was 14/15, and the actual address is 50/52. While 50/52 was in the picture provided, the entrance isn’t on Mariacka street, it’s around the back. Please let other people know this.
Also, being on the top floor and with stairs only, it would be good to let people know that in case they have mobility issues or trouble with luggage up stairs. The washing machine is very difficult to locate, is in a hidden cupboard just inside the entrance.Colin from Denmark – 4 November 2024 (9/10)
Great location and communication from the staff

Loved the location and the property itself
What could be improved: The only thing I would say is that one of the bedrooms had no wardrobe/hanging space so if that was added it would be a bonusDaniel from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (9/10)
