Holland House Residence Old Town Overview

Holland House Residence Old Town sits right on Długi Targ, smack in the heart of Gdańsk’s Old Town, so if you’re looking for that postcard‑like feel, this place gives you a real slice of city life. I walked in on a Saturday morning, the cobblestones slick from the last rain, and the lobby was already buzzing with a mix of locals and tourists. The front desk staff were friendly—no push‑y sales pitch, just a quick scan of my ID, a smile, and a map with a few hidden gems marked. Check‑in was quick; they handed me a keycard, a small booklet that even mentioned the best coffee spot on Brzeźnicki Street, which turned out to be spot on. The building itself is a 19th‑century brick structure, but the interior has been updated with modern touches that feel cozy rather than clinical.

The room was a pleasant 20 square meters of clean, understated elegance. I mean, it wasn’t a penthouse, but the double bed was surprisingly plush, and the linen was crisp. The window looked out onto the bustling market square—honestly, you could hear the vendors hawking their wares and the distant hum of the Motława River. I was a bit worried about noise, but the walls are surprisingly sound‑proof; I could hear the market but not the street traffic. The bathroom had a rain shower that was a nice little indulgence after strolling the streets. One thing I did notice was that the Wi‑Fi was a bit spotty in the evenings, so if you’re a digital nomad, you might want to bring a backup plan. Parking is a bit of a challenge—there’s a small municipal lot just a block away, but the rates are a tad steep, and you’ll have to walk a few minutes. If you’re driving, the best bet is to leave your car in the underground parking on Motławska Street; it’s a 10‑minute walk but worth the extra cash. The staff did mention a small, paid parking spot next to the hotel that’s only for guests on a first‑come, first‑served basis—so keep an eye out if you’re coming in the afternoon.

Now, about the neighborhood: being on Długi Targ means you’re literally in the middle of the action. Just a few steps away is St. Mary’s Basilica, and the whole Old Town feels like a living museum. I took a half‑hour stroll to the Motława waterfront, and the view of the old shipyards and the modern cranes is oddly striking. For lunch, I stopped at a little trattoria on Ulica Stare, the one that serves pierogi with a twist—think truffle or beetroot fillings. The place is noisy, but the staff knows the rhythm of the city and serves up plates faster than you can say “Polish dumpling.” In the evenings, the square lights up and you can hear a mix of jazz from a nearby bar and the chatter of tourists trying to pronounce “Złota” (Gold Street) correctly. I didn’t mind the crowds; the vibe is energetic and the food is good. The only downside is that the hotel’s restaurant, while decent, is a bit pricey for a local standard—so if you’re on a budget, you might skip dining there. Overall, staying at Holland House Residence Old Town felt like having a comfortable, reliable home base in the middle of Gdańsk’s heart, with easy access to everything and a few thoughtful touches that made the stay feel personal. If you’re planning a trip this summer, it’s a solid pick—just bring a camera, a sense of adventure, and maybe a spare charger for the Wi‑Fi hiccups.

Reviews of Holland House Residence Old Town

  • Sarah from United Kingdom – 8 June 2025 (8/10)

Our room was clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect – right in the centre of Gdańsk's restaurants, marina, shops and attractions.
Also walking distance from Stocznia Gdańska for anybody attending Mystic Festival in the future.
Polite and helpful staff with a 24hr reception desk, great if your flight arrives late like ours did! Everything was ideal, with no outside noise reaching us despite how busy the district is.

What could be improved: One minor inconvenience, was how dark the room was – even with all lights turned on and the curtains open, due to the room's position there was no direct sunlight so it was still too dark to get ready. It was fine though, the bathroom was nice and bright. Perhaps brighter bulbs for the non-sunlit rooms might be an idea?

  • Stephen from United Kingdom – 2 June 2025 (9/10)

Very convenient and very large room

What could be improved: A little expensive

  • Patchett from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (8/10)

    Ideal location to explore Gdansk

What could be improved: Having to ask for the room to be cleaned and for toilet paper

  • Andrew from United Kingdom – 12 March 2025 (9/10)

Excellent central location on main old town street. Close to numerous bars, restaurants, and cafes as well as principal tourist attractions and waterfront. Large characterful period rooms but with all modern comforts.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Stephen from United Kingdom – 21 September 2024 (8/10)

    Location,
Lift the buildings are very high

What could be improved: Bed a bit creaky and firm

  • Sara from United Kingdom – 9 September 2024 (9/10)

The staff are very friendly and remembered me from my previous stay. As I arrived they gave me an item I had left behind almost a year before. This a hotel to remember in an excellent location in The Old Town, close to the river. I recommend taking a river trip.

What could be improved: The view from my window was excellent, giving a real feel of the social life below. However, the party atmosphere continued till dawn as the cafés below are open all night through early morning. Even with ear plugs supplies by the hotel it was too noisy to sleep.

  • Jill from United Kingdom – 17 May 2024 (8/10)

central to everything . Friendly reception and very spacious triple room

What could be improved: Absolutely Nothing apart from a tiny niggle . No hooks anywhere. Always needed , at least in the bathroom .
