Historical Townhouse by Blue Mandarin Overview

Historical Townhouse by Blue Mandarin sits tucked between the cobblestoned lanes of Rycerska and the more modern bustle of Gdańsk’s Old Town. I remember stepping out of the taxi and being greeted by the scent of fresh coffee drifting from a nearby café—there’s a little place called „Café Słoneczny” just a block away that locals swear by. The building itself is a charming 19th‑century townhouse, its stone façade weathered just the right amount to feel lived in. Check‑in was quick; the front desk staff was friendly, but I did notice the little handwritten sign that says “Check‑in after 3 pm” in Polish—so if you arrive early, you’ll have to wait for a bit, which is fine, it doesn’t feel like a hassle. Parking is a bit of a hunt; there’s a small municipal lot a few streets over, but you’ll need to pay a modest fee. The noise level inside the hotel is low, even though the street is a bit lively at night with street musicians and the occasional honk from a scooter.

The rooms are a blend of vintage charm and modern convenience—think exposed beams, a plush sofa that’s actually comfortable, and a small kitchenette with a coffee maker that’s a lifesaver after a long day of sightseeing. I stayed in the “Garden Suite,” and the view of the courtyard garden is surprisingly tranquil; you can hear the wind rustling through the leaves and the faint hum of the city. The bed was a solid 14-inch mattress, and the linens felt like a hug. I appreciate that the bathroom has a rain shower—no spray heads, which is a big plus. The minibar was stocked, but honestly, I only used it for a glass of water because the room’s fridge kept me from buying overpriced drinks at the bar. I did, however, find a small note from the staff with a local guidebook, which was a nice touch.

Locally, I’d recommend a walk down Motława Street to catch the sunset over the old harbor. The next morning, I grabbed breakfast at a bakery called „Piekarnia Krakowska”—their rye bread is to die for. For dinner, I tried “Restauracja Stary Dom” on Jagiellońska; the pierogi were authentic, and the waiter had a great sense of humor. If you’re into nightlife, you can hop over to the bars in the Gdańsk Old Town, but be prepared for the usual tourist crowds. I found that the hotel’s location is perfect for catching the early morning light on the cathedral—no need to scramble for a tour bus. I’m giving it a solid 9 out of 10; it’s a four‑star place that feels like a home away from home, with the kind of local warmth that’s hard to find in chain hotels. If you’re planning a trip, this is the spot to stay—just remember to bring your camera for those unexpected street performances and the occasional stray cat that loves to wander the courtyard at night.

Reviews of Historical Townhouse by Blue Mandarin

  • Cristian from Colombia – 10 February 2025 (8/10)

I think it's great that they have an office where you can collect the keys and get all the necessary information, making the check-in process smoother and more organized.

I really loved the natural sunlight and how spacious the place felt. The washroom was big and well-equipped, and they provided everything you need to cook and even iron your clothes. Overall, a very comfortable and convenient stay!

What could be improved: However, since I was carrying a very heavy bag, it was a bit inconvenient to move between locations and up the stairs to my room on the 3rd floor. That said, this was just my personal experience—if you're traveling light or don’t mind the stairs, it’s absolutely fine!

Comments relate to single occupancy of Superior Studio (second floor front)

Recently created apartment in refurbished historic building located close to the old town (by the lifting pedestrian bridge). Spacious, clean, and warm and cosy in the sub-zero temperatures. Professional landlord. View over car parking area to WW2 museum and modern area of city.

Spacious shower room with large shower. Firm beds (2 singles pushed together with combined base sheet and separate duvets).

    Towels provided. Fridge and microwave.

Convenient for shops and restaurants (I searched out my favourite German supermarket to avoid the self service checkouts elsewhere!).

What could be improved: No television or hob (I knew that when I booked) – surprising in an apartment of this quality. A little bottle of washing up liquid and a tea towel would also have been appreciated.

The original refurbished winding staircase is lovely but care is required.

The larger of the two shower heads requires attention (water cascades around the edge!) – reported.

    Large well equipped
Easy walking distance to attractions, shops ,bars and restaurants.

What could be improved: Broken blinds

  • Anna from Ukraine – 6 December 2024 (8/10)

Amazing service! There was a small problem at check-in – the bus was very late and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to pick up my keys (according to the rules they had to be picked up in person). But the administrators were always in touch with me and left the keys in a locker near the hotel. Thanks to this I was able to check in after midnight without any problems.
The room is very cozy, not far from the old town. Quiet at night – with the windows closed you can't even hear the noise of the street. Clean, comfortable and soft bed. All necessary electrical appliances are present – from microwave and kettle to iron and hair dryer.

  • Antonina from Ukraine – 8 November 2024 (9/10)

Despite the fact that my flight delayed, people were staying in touch and made the process of getting key as smooth as possible.

What could be improved: I was happy with everythying.

  • Enlund from Finland – 29 October 2024 (9/10)

Spacious, modern and clean apartment. Nice view from both windows.

What could be improved: The sound from the staircase came right through the walls.

  • Anastasiya from Belarus – 15 July 2024 (9/10)

Very cool place, nice hosts. Location is a bonus + good value for its price.

What could be improved: It's slightly tricky to find the place where the keys are passed over, but we managed.

  • Hjorturdor from Iceland – 7 June 2024 (9/10)

    The AC was awesome.

What could be improved: No TV

  • Urszula from Sweden – 16 May 2024 (8/10)

We got a big room. Everything was so fresh and clean. Very good location in a centrum but also very calm.

What could be improved: Our refrigerator wasn’t on. We figured it out after 2 days when milk and beer was warm 🫣. We had to plug the refrigerator in by ourselves.

  • Gary from United Kingdom – 10 May 2024 (8/10)

I loved the studio apartment I had for 4 nights. Spacious and bright with everything you need for a few nights with a view over the rooftops to the church spires. Great shower with large cubicle and the whole apartment was very clean. Perfect location for the riverside restaurants with a small convenience store just a few minutes walk in the other direction. Very quiet at night.

    What could be improved: Nothing.
