Grunwaldzka Attic by Downtown Apartments Overview

Grunwaldzka Attic by Downtown Apartments sits on the corner of Aleja Grunwaldzka and the quieter side street of ul. Piotrkowska, a spot you’ll only find if you’re actually walking the streets instead of just scrolling a map. The check‑in was surprisingly breezy – the front desk staff greeted me with that warm, “Welcome to Gdańsk!” vibe that locals give to each other. I was handed a key card that felt a little heavier than the usual plastic, which already hinted at a touch of old‑world charm. They asked if I needed a few extra towels or a bottle of water; honestly, I was all set, but it’s those little gestures that make a stay feel personal. The lobby is modest, with a few framed photographs of the Motława River, and the smell of fresh coffee from the tiny café in the corner never quite leaves the room. You know what? The lobby’s dim lighting gives off an almost vintage atmosphere, like stepping into a period film set rather than a modern hotel.

When I opened my door, the room was a neat blend of contemporary design and practical comfort. The bed was a solid platform with memory‑foam sheets that hugged your body just right – the kind of mattress that makes you actually get out of bed in the morning. The bathroom felt spa‑like, with a rain shower and the scent of eucalyptus soap. The real treat was the view from the balcony: a sweeping panorama of the old port and the amber waves of the Vistula, especially at sunset. I spent a half hour just watching the city lights flicker on, the distant hum of traffic from ul. Żurawia just a block away, and the occasional bell of a tram passing by. There’s an audible rhythm to Gdańsk that you only notice when you’re in a place that feels connected to the city’s pulse, and Grunwaldzka Attic by Downtown Apartments does that perfectly. I also found a small, well‑placed bookshelf with a selection of Polish classics – a clear nod to the local culture that feels more like a personal library than a hotel stocking. Parking was a mixed bag; there’s a paid underground lot a short walk from the hotel, but for those who prefer the hustle of the city, you can park on the street for a nominal fee. Noise was minimal after 10 p.m., though the morning rush around 7 a.m. can be a bit loud with the traffic on Aleja Grunwaldzka, but it’s not a deal‑breaker.

In terms of the neighborhood, you’ll quickly realize that this spot is not just about the hotel; it’s about the vibe of Gdańsk itself. A few minutes down the alley, I stumbled upon a tiny pierogi shop, the kind that serves dumplings that practically melt in your mouth. The next street, ul. Główna, is lined with boutique cafés and a small bookstore that always has a few copies of contemporary Polish literature. If you’re into history, just a three‑minute walk takes you to the medieval walls near the Old Town, where the cobblestones still feel worn by centuries of foot traffic. For a quiet evening, the hotel’s rooftop terrace is a hidden gem – a small, cozy space with string lights and a panoramic view of the city’s skyline. I watched the sun dip behind the St. Mary’s Basilica while sipping on a glass of local white wine that the hotel offered as a complimentary welcome drink. The only critique I’d have is that the Wi‑Fi signal can dip a bit during peak hours, but that’s a minor hiccup in an otherwise stellar experience. All in all, Grunwaldzka Attic by Downtown Apartments feels like a home away from home, a place that invites you to soak in the city’s rhythm without feeling like a tourist. If you’re planning a trip to Gdańsk, this is the spot that will make your stay feel genuinely local and warmly remembered.

Hotel in Gdansk booking should be done early, especially during summer festivals when the city hosts internationally celebrated cultural and maritime events.

Reviews of Grunwaldzka Attic by Downtown Apartments

  • Grzegorz from Poland – 7 June 2025 (9/10)

Czysto, schludnie i przyjemnie. Miły gest w postaci przygotowanego ekspresu do kawy. Dobra lokalizacja w centrum Gdańska.

  • Georgetta from Bulgaria – 5 June 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: The instructions for entering the property should say that there are THREE locks to open and one of the two keys is to be used on BOTH locks of the inner door! Without this info I thought the lock was broken. Had to phone several times and lost an hour and more to wait for a technician to come and open! This is so easy to improve!

  • Vladyslav from Cyprus – 27 April 2025 (3/10)

    the apartment had everything necessary

What could be improved: the apartment looks like a birdhouse with small windows and is located on the 5th floor on the roof of an old building where it is very difficult and inconvenient to go up with a suitcase. we lived there for more than two weeks and it was extremely awful to go two or three times a day to the 5th floor. why is it not indicated anywhere that there is no elevator?
