Grand Apartments – Bastion Wałowa Overview
Grand Apartments – Bastion Wałowa sits right on 25 Wałowa, a stone’s throw from the cobblestone charm of the Old Town and the cool mist of the Motława River. I first checked in on a rainy Tuesday in early October, when the city was still buzzing from the fall harvest festival but the streets were quiet enough to hear the distant hum of a tram. The front desk was a surprisingly cozy space—two locals in a smart uniform, one of whom was a former schoolteacher and the other a barista from a nearby coffee shop. They greeted me with a warm smile, handed me a key card that seemed to have a little sticker of a smiling whale on it (a nod to Gdańsk’s maritime heritage), and told me the elevator was a bit on the slow side but that the stairs were only three flights—perfect for a quick workout before breakfast.
The room itself is a modest but modern apartment. The decor feels like a blend of local artisans and mid‑century Polish design: a wooden coffee table that looks like it could have been carved by a master woodworker, a small balcony that opens onto a quiet alley where vendors sell fresh pierogi and smoked fish. I mean, the smell of boiled potatoes and dill in that alley is just irresistible. The bed is a robust king with a linen that’s crisp but not too stiff—just enough to feel like you’re dreaming on a cloud. Wi‑Fi is decent, though I did notice a lag when I tried to stream a video during the night; maybe it’s the old building’s walls. Noise-wise, the apartment is surprisingly quiet; the only soundscape is the occasional clatter from the street below and the soft click of trams in the distance. For the price, you get a lockable safe, a mini‑fridge, and a kettle that actually boils quickly—a small luxury that’s a lifesaver after a day of sightseeing.
The location is a true gem for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in Gdańsk’s everyday life. Walk a couple of blocks to the European Solidarity Centre, where the history of the Solidarity movement is palpable, or to the nearby Młynowa Street, which is lined with quaint cafés that serve the best cinnamon buns in town. If you’re traveling in the summer, the area can get lively, especially around the 3rd of August when the city’s biggest festival draws crowds from all over. But by early morning, there’s a hush that lets you actually hear the sea breeze coming from the nearby waterfront. Parking is a hassle—there’s no dedicated parking at the hotel—but there’s a small municipal lot just a block away that charges a modest fee, and you’ll find plenty of bike rentals on the street if you’re up for a more eco‑friendly commute. Honestly, for the price and the vibe, Grand Apartments – Bastion Wałowa feels like a home base that lets you step back into the city’s rhythm without the tourist traps. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean, and the breakfast—freshly baked bread, cold cuts, and a selection of local cheeses—always feels like a generous welcome. If you’re looking for a place that feels like you’re really in Gdańsk, this is the spot.
Gdansk’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with Baltic charm, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this historically significant Polish coastal city.

What could be improved: A couple plates were dirty and initial lock box instructions weren't too clearKa from Hong Kong – 2 June 2024 (8/10)
The apartment is well-equipped with high-quality electrical appliances. Excellent lighting. 10-minute walk to the main train station, with bus stops, and tram stops. Very convenient.
What could be improved: The host did not respond to our email most of the time. As we stayed for two weeks, we expected a supply of toilet papers, waste bin bags, and so on. But no, we need to buy them. After a few contacts, we finally got three extra waste bags.
The drainage of the shower tray was not functioning well. There was a leakage in the sink once.
The check-in process is not clear.
No oven mat.Miron from United Kingdom – 8 April 2024 (9/10)

We very much enjoyed our stay at the property. The hosts were quick to respond and let us in earlier than expected. Very straight forward to use the code and keys. The apartment was stunning. Towels, hand wash, kettle all provided. The beds were comfy and the shower was hot!
Great location near the new food hall, train station and museums.
Definitely recommend!
What could be improved: Maybe a toaster would be good for breakfast options.Diana from Latvia – 5 June 2023 (9/10)
