Flaming Overview
When I first stumbled onto ul. Świętej Barbary 12, the city’s cobblestones already felt different—there’s a certain rhythm in that part of Gdańsk that makes you pause, like the old stone steps leading up to St. Mary’s Church. I spotted a sleek, modern façade and realized that Flaming was hiding just a few streets away from the bustling Royal Way, yet somehow still a breath away from the historic heart. The building itself is a clean slice of contemporary design, but the lobby has that warm, almost nostalgic feel you get when you’re greeted by a friendly receptionist who knows the area more than the locals do.
Check‑in was surprisingly smooth—no long lines, no endless paperwork. The front desk staff let me in with a quick nod and a “welcome to Flaming,” and then handed me a keycard that whispered, “you’re in. Enjoy.” I mean, honestly, they managed to strike that sweet spot between efficiency and a personal touch. Right outside the lobby, a small café roasts coffee so dark and aromatic that the smell alone could have been a postcard from the city. I could hear the distant laughter from the Old Town’s cafés, and in the next room, the faint hum of a city bus—just enough to keep the place feeling alive but not so much that it felt like a white noise machine.
The room itself was a quiet sanctuary. The bed was soft, the sheets crisp, and the view from the window? I could see the wave of the Baltic Sea, a subtle reminder that you’re still a stone’s throw from the harbor. The noise level inside was spot‑on—quiet enough to fall asleep right after dinner, yet you could still hear the distant bells of St. Mary’s at night. The bathroom had that minimalistic polish that makes you feel like you’re staying in a high‑end hotel, but the shower was just the right temperature, no hot‑water hiccup that I’ve seen in some places. Parking was a breeze too—there’s a small underground lot right in front of the hotel, and the attendants let me in with a smile. I parked my car, and the whole experience felt like a well‑planned encore of a good night out.
What really sets Flaming apart is the little details that only someone who’s lived there would notice. There’s a tiny shop at the corner of ul. Świętej Barbary that sells fresh pierogi, and I’ve been told the secret recipe is from a grandmother who’s lived there for decades—so I know that the pierogi are not just a tourist trick. After a long day of exploring the Old Town, I love to stroll down to the nearby Łęska street. That narrow lane is a hidden gem—cafés with wicker chairs, a few tiny art galleries, and the gentle murmur of a street performer playing accordion under the bridge. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re part of the city’s story, not just a visitor.
If you’re planning a trip during the peak tourist season, I’d advise arriving early or booking a room with a view of the canal. The noise from the canal’s boats can be a bit lively at night, but it’s also part of the charm—like a lullaby of waves. The staff at Flaming knows this, so they’ll recommend a quieter room if you’re sensitive to sound. On quieter days, the hotel’s garden is a hidden oasis—tucked behind the building, with a small fountain that’s soothing, especially in the evenings when the city lights flicker like fireflies. The whole experience feels like a blend of modern comfort and old‑world charm, with a side of local authenticity that makes you feel at home in Gdańsk. If you’re looking for a spot that’s both spot‑on and pleasantly surprising, Flaming is the place to be.
To book hotel in Gdansk during the famous St. Dominic’s Fair season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts maritime enthusiasts and history lovers from around the world.

Great location, stylish interior, comfortable bed. Loved the bath, shower also great. Coffee machine big unexpected bonus. Nice seating area outside. Cannot fault it. Will make this our choice on any return visits.
What could be improved: Didn’t have black out blinds so a lie in was out of question for my husband who struggles as soon as there’s light! But not a deal breaker at all.Brian from United Kingdom – 4 April 2025 (10/10)
Excellent and helpful host. Apartment was lovely and provides great value for money, in an excellent part of the city. Would definitely stay here again in the future and recommend to others. Nicely equipped apartment also.
What could be improved: Only suggestion would be that it would helpful if additional toiletries/ toilet roll were supplied as with a late arrival, picking these up locally was not possible, but appreciate not all apartments offer this.Francesca from United Kingdom – 28 March 2025 (8/10)
The apartment was lovely. Very clean and everything you would need. Great location too.
What could be improved: Building door with key code was a bit tricky to get in. Kept putting the code in (correctly) and the door wouldn’t open. Also the actual apartment door was hard to lock from the inside but not the outside. Couldn’t turn the volume of telly down so couldn’t have it on and also no option to turn the heating down/off so was too warm at night to sleepMorgan from United Kingdom – 9 March 2025 (10/10)
Photographs don’t do it justice, such beautiful and stylish apartments. Incredible value for money!
Moira from United Kingdom – 9 March 2025 (10/10)
Everything needed was provided and well thought out – very comfortable
What could be improved: Garbage door outside would not open to get rid of rubbish – small detail
