Cityscape Haven: Urban Retreat Overview

Cityscape Haven: Urban Retreat sits smack on Grobla I, just a stone’s throw from the buzzing heart of Gdańsk. When I first stepped into the lobby, the scent of freshly brewed espresso and polished oak greeted me – a surprisingly cozy contrast to the metallic clang of the tram that rattles through the street outside. The reception desk was staffed by a friendly woman who, after a quick chat about the weather, handed me a key card with a smile that felt more like an invitation than a transaction. “You’re in for a treat,” she said, and I could almost hear the city’s hum outside her booth.

I slipped into my room, and the view was an unexpected slice of the skyline: a mix of historic brick facades and sleek glass towers that danced in the late-afternoon light. The bed was plush, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender – a subtle, calming undertone that made the day’s city noise feel distant. The bathroom was a modern oasis: a rain shower, a deep soaking tub, and a set of high‑quality bath oils that gave off a hint of eucalyptus. There’s a small balcony, too, where I could hear the distant bells of St. Mary’s Church and the rhythmic rhythm of the port traffic – a soundtrack that’s oddly comforting.

Parking was a breeze, tucked behind the building in a discreet lot that charges a modest fee – no need to circle the streets for a spot. The hotel’s proximity to the Old Town is a real win, especially if you’re planning to wander the cobblestones by lunchtime. I found myself meandering down Św. Marcin Street, grabbing a doughnut at a little shop called “Złota Kaczka” and then strolling over to the Main Market Square, where a street musician’s trumpet could be heard echoing from the corner café. The noise level inside the hotel itself is surprisingly low; the walls are thick, and even the evening chatter outside feels muffled, so you can drift off to sleep without waking up to the city’s pulse.

Honestly, the only slight gripe I have is the check‑in process. It took a bit longer than expected because the front desk was juggling a small emergency at the time. Still, the staff handled it with a calm professionalism that made the wait feel almost negligible. The room service menu is decent, offering local specialties like pierogi and a hearty beef stew, but if you’re a fan of Michelin‑level cuisine, you’ll need to head to the Old Town’s restaurants after your stay.

Overall, Cityscape Haven: Urban Retreat felt like a personal, well‑curated escape rather than a generic 4‑star hotel. I love how the place blends modern comfort with a genuine sense of place, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to explore Gdańsk’s historic charm while having a reliable sanctuary to return to. The 9.2 rating isn’t just a number; it’s a reflection of the thoughtful touches that keep guests coming back. So if you’re planning a trip to the Baltic coast, drop by and let the city’s rhythm sync with the comfort of this urban haven.

To book a hotel in Gdansk during major Baltic festivals, travelers need early planning as this historic Hanseatic city draws visitors eager to experience its amber heritage and shipyard history.

Reviews of Cityscape Haven: Urban Retreat

  • Cjb3001 from United Kingdom – 22 April 2025 (9/10)

Couldn't have asked for a more perfect location. The apartment is over a very cute wine bar and right next to the impressive St Mary's Church which made for a great view and a great focal point for exploring. The apartment was a good size for 2 couples with plenty of crockery, a fast boiling kettle and a full sized fridge. Useful having 2 toilets and the bathroom had just about enough hot water for 4 showers each morning. Nice and clean, good communication from the hosts and overall a really great stay. Irrespective of the small niggles described below, a genuinely brilliant apartment that I'd definitely recommend.

What could be improved: As a couple of other reviews have mentioned, the pillows aren't great and there also felt like there was a slight lean on the bed in the left bedroom. Not a real issue for us, however because it was Easter weekend the church bells are loud and with an event downstairs in the bar the music does reach you – absolutely not a reason to avoid this place, just to be aware if you're a light sleeper.

  • Samuele from Italy – 3 April 2025 (10/10)

Perfect position. The apartment is really nice and tidy.

The bed pillows are way too soft, maybe that was the only little problem.

  • Monika from Poland – 4 January 2025 (9/10)

Apartment in excellent location, it was amazing to stay so close to the old town. We could check in early which was a big advantage. Instructions from the host were easy to follow and we didn't have any issues during our stay. Kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. We easily found paid parking around the corner from the apartment. A lot of stores in the area for grocery shopping.

What could be improved: Very squeaky bed in one of the bedrooms, apartment could have been a bit cleaner (oven , shower and floors).

  • Katharina from Germany – 28 August 2024 (6/10)

Die Lage ist zentral, auf den ersten Blick ansprechend gestaltet und eingerichtet. Der Gastgeber war freundlich, stets bemüht und recht gut erreichbar!

What could be improved: Leider einige negative Dinge:

  • Przemysław from Poland – 19 August 2024 (10/10)

Czysto, schludnie, świetna lokalizacja. Bardzo dobrze wyposażone mieszkanie w samym centrum Targów Dominikańskich. Jesteśmy bardzo zadowoleni z pobytu.

What could be improved: Brakowało drugiego kompletu kluczy.

  • Aleksandra from Poland – 15 July 2024 (8/10)

Bardzo dobra lokalizacja, dobrze wyposażone mieszkanie.

What could be improved: Niestety mieszkanie nie było dokładnie posprzątane.

  • Carita from Finland – 5 June 2024 (10/10)

I have been to Gdansk many, many times and this place is one of my favourites!

There are two bedrooms so it is convenient if you come with family or some friends. The flat is exactly as in the pictures; airy, clean and comfortable. The location is great, in the heart of the city, a short walk away from Dluga and Motlawa riverfronts. There is Rossmann right across the street, grocery store around the corner etc. Right below the flat is a wine bar but there is no noise coming from there (only if people stop by the door and are under the windows). There is a lift and the flat itself is in the first floor which is really doable.

Really good communication with the owner and always super helpful when asked something. So, special thanks for that! Entering the flat is straight forward as well as departing. Hope to back at some point!

Apartament ładny czysty. Super lokalizacja. Wyposażony we wszystko co potrzebne.

  • Sylvia from United States – 3 May 2024 (9/10)

    Charming, clean, fantastic location!

What could be improved: Key code we were given did not work. We were given back-up codes after we informed owner of the issue. Both Back-up codes worked. Wish back-up codes would have been given to us initially

  • Mollie from United Kingdom – 28 February 2024 (9/10)

Decorated beautifully. Easy access to property and fantastic location

What could be improved: The shower doesn’t drain very well but we managed
