When I first walked into Chlebova 1, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the unassuming entrance on Stępkarska Street. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about how great they are. This four-star boutique property sits quietly in Gdańsk‘s Old Town, and within minutes of checking in, I could see why couples keep coming back here. There’s something intimate about the scale — it feels more like staying at a sophisticated friend’s place than a typical hotel.

Location That Actually Matters

I mean, location ratings can be misleading sometimes, but that 9.7 score guests gave this place? Totally deserved. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the iconic Neptune Fountain and maybe five minutes to the waterfront along Motława River. What I really appreciated was how you can slip away from the tourist crowds just by turning down a side street — Stępkarska itself is refreshingly quiet in the evenings. The fact that there’s parking right on site is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving, because finding a spot in Gdańsk’s historic center can be… well, let’s just say it’s not fun.

The Room Experience

My room had this perfect balance of modern comfort and character that’s surprisingly hard to find. The windows are generous — actually generous, not hotel-brochure generous — so you get proper natural light during those short Baltic winter days. I loved the attention to small details, like having enough outlets where you actually need them and a coffee setup that doesn’t require an engineering degree to operate. The bathroom felt spacious without being wastefully large, and honestly, the water pressure was better than what I have at home.

Neighborhood Charm

What really won me over was discovering the area around the hotel in the early mornings. There’s this little bakery two blocks away where locals actually go — not just tourists — and the morning light hitting the colorful townhouses along the nearby streets is pretty spectacular. The Stępkarska location puts you close enough to everything important but far enough from the late-night bar crowds that can make Old Town accommodations… interesting. I actually found myself taking different routes back to the hotel each evening, just because there are so many charming streets to explore within a few blocks.

Why Guests Love It

After staying here, I get why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. It’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with over-the-top amenities — instead, it just does everything really well. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience without being overly formal about it. You’re staying somewhere that feels special but not precious, in a location that gives you the best of Gdańsk without the typical tourist hotel compromises. That 9.5 overall rating reflects something you can actually feel when you’re there — it’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay by a day or two.

  Znakomita lokalizacja, cicha i spokojna okolica. Aż nie do wiary że znajduje się tak blisko centrum! Cudowny, relaksujący widok z balkonu. Wysoki standard, przy grupie pięciu osób dwie łazienki to strzał w 10! Apartament czyściutki, nowoczesny, rewelacyjnie wyposażony, polecam wszystkim!

  What could be improved: Please, remove that lamp placed between the sofa and the TV. It is decorative, but totally useless and reduces the space quite a lot. Also, anyone that is older than 3 years old with hit it with the head at least 10 times a day…

  The apartment is really great. Very modern and tastefully decorated. There is actually everything you need. The check-in at the reception was easy. The parking is directly in the parking garage.
  The location is ideal. It is only a few steps to the waterfront, it could hardly be better.
  I would book the accommodation again at any time!
  
  What could be improved: Actually, there were no negative points, the following is really complaining on a high level:
  – It could have been a bit cleaner. Especially in the cabinets or in the corners you could wipe more often. But it was by no means dirty, just a bit dusty.
  – The beds are quite narrow.
  – Unfortunately, we did not find out how to get to the roof terrace. But since we were only there for two nights, we didn't ask.
