Baltic Haus Overview

Baltic Haus sits on Kolonia Zręby, just a stone’s throw from the bustling Motława River. Walking up the cobblestone steps, you can smell the briny air mingled with the sweet aroma of freshly baked rye bread from the bakery on the corner of Długa Street. The building itself is a snug blend of old and new—brick in the front, glass panels that let in the light, and a little wooden sign that reads “Baltic Haus” in a hand‑written font that feels like a local’s personal invitation. When I first checked in, the front‑desk lady greeted me with a grin that said, “I’ve seen you before, even if you’re a first‑timer.” She had this knack for remembering the little quirks—like how loudly the elevator music plays on the 12th floor—so you feel like you’re part of the neighborhood.

The room? Oh, the view is a real treat. From the balcony, you can see the old town’s rooftops and the river’s gentle ripple, especially at sunset when the sky turns that kind of amber you only see in postcards. The bed is surprisingly plush, the sheets feel like a soft whisper, and the bathroom is a tiny sanctuary with a teak wood shelf that holds a handful of local soaps. Honestly, the bathroom’s scent of pine and seaweed is something I’ll bring back in my mind every time I walk past a pier in another city. The Wi‑Fi is fast, but the real charm is the little detail: a small brass clock that ticks like a heartbeat, reminding you that time here moves a bit slower, even if the city around you doesn’t.

Parking is actually a breeze. There’s a small underground garage a block away, and the staff will hand you a key without fuss—no need to circle the block in search of a spot. Noise? I used to worry about the street, but the building’s insulation does a great job. The only sounds that creep in are the occasional gulls and the distant hum of traffic from the nearby Gdańsk Shipyard. If you’re an early bird, the breakfast room opens at 6:30 am, and there’s a line of locals, but the staff is on your side, hand‑picking a spot for you. The breakfast itself is a mix of local delicacies—pierogi, smoked fish, and a creamy porridge—plus a coffee that’s strong enough to start your day. I mean, it’s better than most hotel coffee, which is usually a generic blend. The seating area is lined with windows that face the river, so you can watch the boats drift by while you nibble on a fresh croissant.

And if you’re looking to explore, just step outside. Długi Targ is a five‑minute walk away, with its market stalls selling everything from handmade ceramics to fresh fruit. On the other side, you’ll find the National Maritime Museum, which has a collection that tells the story of Gdańsk’s seafaring past. The hotel’s location is such that you can hop on a tram to the historic Old Town or catch a bus to the trendy Przymorze district. The staff even gives recommendations for the best seafood spot on Gdańsk’s waterfront—there’s a place called “Słodka Kaczka” that serves the best herring you’ve ever had.

All in all, Baltic Haus feels less like a place to stay and more like a place to belong. The staff knows your name after a few days, the rooms feel like a cozy retreat, and the vibe is a perfect mix of local charm and thoughtful comfort. If you’re planning a trip to Gdańsk, this is the spot where you’ll find the city’s rhythm, a dash of sea breeze, and a warm slice of home.

  • Michelle from United Kingdom – 31 May 2023 (10/10)

The apartment was beautiful. Well decorated and everything had a classy feel. The beds were super comfy. Smart TV so can watch Netflix of an evening before bed. The tram stop at the bottom of road took 10mins to get into the centre (number 10 and 12). Joanna always responded to messages very quickly and was helpful. Uber taxis always very quick and £8 to the airport. The balcony was lush, extremely well maintained. Theres a small shop 2mins walk which is open late for all snack essentials. Shower was nice and powerful. Huge fridge and freezer with lots of cooking utensils. Iron and ironing board all worked great. Lots of storage space.

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing.!
