Apartamenty Świętej Barbary Overview

I first stumbled upon the Apartamenty Świętej Barbary when I was wandering through the cobbled lanes of ul. Świętej Barbary, just a stone’s throw from the old town’s bustling market square. The building itself is a charming mix of brick and glass, the kind of façade that feels like a secret kept by the city. Check‑in was surprisingly breezy—no long queues, just a friendly front‑desk staff member who handed me a key card and a quick tour of the lobby, which, honestly, felt more like a cozy living room than a hotel. I was greeted with a small Polish coffee and a pastry that made the whole experience feel like a personal welcome, not a corporate transaction. Parking is a bit of a hunt; there’s a small paid lot two blocks away, but if you’re okay with a quick walk, you’ll find plenty of street parking, especially on the quieter side streets of Świętej Barbary and nearby Struga.

The room itself was a bright, airy space with a view that actually frames the Motława River in the distance—think soft waves of water and the distant chatter of fishermen. The bed was plush, the linens crisp, and the bathroom had a surprisingly generous shower with a rainfall head that left a misty, almost spa‑like feel. I loved the small touches: a local map on the wall, a set of Polish pastries in the minibar, and a Bluetooth speaker that let me play my favorite playlist while I watched the city lights flicker on at dusk. Noise from the street was minimal; the building’s thick walls kept the traffic and the occasional honk at bay, so I could sleep through the night even though I’m usually sensitive to city sounds. The only thing that might bother a very early‑bird traveler is the morning rush from the nearby tram lines, but that’s a minor quirk in an otherwise peaceful setting.

What really sets the hotel apart is the sense of community you get when you’re there. I struck up a conversation with the concierge, who recommended a hidden gem—Polish dumpling place on ul. Szwajcarska that’s only a 10‑minute walk away. He also pointed out the best times to catch the sunrise over the Old Town from the nearby park, which, trust me, is a view that turns even the most ordinary day into something special. The staff’s genuine enthusiasm for the city is infectious; they’re always ready to share a local tip or a story about the history of Gdańsk. If you’re visiting in late summer or early fall, the weather is typically warm and sunny, making those strolls along the river all the more enjoyable. In the winter, the streets are quiet and the lights create a magical atmosphere, though you’ll want to bundle up for the chilly evenings. All in all, staying at Apartamenty Świętej Barbary felt like having a reliable friend in the city—friendly, helpful, and always ready to point you toward the next great experience.

What could be improved: The only thing I didn’t like about the property was the fact that my breakfast (more likely for both days) has been stolen from in front of my door. I do suggest to find a solution for this or find the thief.
The problem was solved by the owner with professional manner by offering me a dinner (for my 1st stolen breakfast) and breakfast (for the 2nd stolen breakfast – money has been returned.
