Apartament Starogdański 51 Overview
Apartament Starogdański 51 sits right on the lively Szeroka Street, a spot that’s basically the beating heart of old‑town Gdańsk. I remember the first time I walked up the stone steps, the air already tinged with that salty sea breeze that only the Baltic can give you. The building itself is a classic 19th‑century brick facade, but there’s this modern twist in the lobby—think minimalist Polish design with a touch of Scandinavian warmth. Inside, the reception is quick and friendly, though the staff do a “self‑check‑in” system now, so there’s no queue but you do get a quick wristband that looks surprisingly like a tiny Polaroid. Parking is a bit of a hunt: you can snag a spot on Szeroka, but I’d recommend the small underground lot on the corner of Książęca; it’s only a five‑minute walk and they put a free meter on the street for the first hour. The noise level is surprisingly low for a city center—maybe that’s because the closest tram line is a few blocks away, so you get the full Gdańsk charm without the constant clatter of trams.
A few minutes from the hotel, you can stroll over to the old market square, where the cobblestones still echo with the footsteps of tourists and locals alike. I swear the smell of pierogi from that little shop on Żarnowiecka Street is the best way to settle in after a day of wandering. If you’re a foodie, you’ll love hopping into the “Café in the Old Town” on Długie, where they serve coffee that’s strong enough to wake you up and pastries that are literally melt‑in‑your‑mouth. I mean, the city’s food scene is great, but Apartament Starogdański 51 feels like a secret base that keeps you close to everything without the crowds. The rooms are spacious, with clean lines and a surprisingly soft bed—think wool bedding that feels like a hug from a Polish grandma. The bathrooms are a hit: the shower has a nice, steady water pressure and the tiles are bright enough to reflect the morning light. There is a small balcony on the second floor that faces the street, where you can sit with a cup of tea while watching the city wake up. The only downside is the Wi‑Fi; it works most of the time but can be spotty if you’re in the basement, so bring a backup plan if you need to work.
When I stayed there last summer, the evenings were magical. The hotel’s location means you’re never far from the Motława River; just a 10‑minute walk and you’re at the waterfront, where the lights reflect on the water in a way that feels almost like a postcard come to life. The staff do a good job of suggesting hidden spots—like that tiny jazz bar on Gdańska Street or the really cool art gallery on Nowy Targ. Check‑out is smooth, but be mindful of the 11 pm check‑out policy; a quick chat with the receptionist and they’ll usually let you stay a bit longer if you’re still awake. Honestly, the only thing that could make this place even better is a bit more noise insulation, but honestly, the sounds of the city—laughing tourists, distant traffic, the occasional laugh from a café—just add to the authentic Gdańsk vibe. If you’re planning a visit during the busy summer months, expect the streets to be bustling, but the hotel stays a calm sanctuary. If you’re there in the quieter winter, you’ll hear the wind rustling the leaves on the nearby trees and get the feeling of a city that’s alive even when the lights are dim. Overall, Apartament Starogdański 51 feels like a warm hug in the middle of a historic, bustling city.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Gdansk at least two months ahead for major events like St. Dominic’s Fair, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near historic attractions.

Location, possibility of late check out – we arrived after midnight.
What could be improved: The bed for the third person was not made up. I found an extra bedding in the sofa bed and I made the bed up by myself.Rodrigo from United Kingdom – 5 August 2024 (9/10)
Spacious, looks exactly like the photos, kitchen well stocked, the location was also great, a few blocks away from the super-touristy zones but close enough to some nice cafes and restaurants. Absolutely recommended for short or long stays.
What could be improved: No major complaints.David from United Kingdom – 8 May 2024 (9/10)

Alīna from Latvia – 6 March 2024 (8/10)
Very good location, everything was near.
Across the street are shop, caffee, and around a corner are lovely street with nice cafe.
12 min till bus stop (to airport).
Beds was comfortable. Kitchen has everything what we need.
We enjoy the sounds which comes sometimes from church bells (church not far), it was not tipical sounds, but was like melody 🙂
What could be improved: In the bathroom, it is necessary to adjust the button, pot for the water lowering system.
It is also necessary to screw the sockets (electricity), some of them did not work or were in a bad condition.Bryan from New Zealand – 11 December 2023 (9/10)
Beautiful loft style apartment
What could be improved: Needs some updating. Shower is very short, a few items in need of maintenance. Mostly cosmetic, however it did not affect our stay as the location is excellent!Polina from Norway – 9 December 2023 (9/10)
Everything was exceptional. The communication with the host was almost immediate; the location, facilities was great; the apartment is spacious, there was no street noise; all looked and was very cozy; the bed was comfortable. Good wi fi, all the information well provided
What could be improved: We liked everything. It was a little cold at night but there were extra blankets; the drain in the bathroom sink was slow. We did not need it this time around, but there is no elevator in the buildingAndra from Latvia – 29 October 2023 (9/10)
