Apartament Angielska Grobla 139 Overview

Apartament Angielska Grobla 139 was the first stop on my Gdańsk adventure. I pulled into the little parking lot on ul. Angielska Grobla and the sign was a hand‑written “Welcome” in Polish—immediately felt local. The building itself is a neat, mid‑century block, not the flashiest, but the lobby had that warm, almost too quiet vibe you get when the staff actually know your name. The front desk was a pair of cheerful locals who spoke fluent English and had a stack of maps, one of which showed the route to the Motława River. I ordered a quick coffee before the night shift took over, and the barista told me the best spot to catch the sunset is the nearby parking lot by the river, where the city lights mix with the sea breeze. Check‑in was super straightforward, no long forms, just a friendly chat and a key card that felt a little like a passport. I noted the quiet streets—no sirens, just the hum of traffic and a faint sea salt scent drifting in. Parking was free, which is a huge plus in a city that tends to charge a fortune for that kind of thing. The room itself opened onto a narrow street, but a small balcony let in fresh air, and the windows faced a quiet corner of the city, so you can hear the distant bells of St. Mary’s Basilica without feeling rushed. The bed was surprisingly plush for a 4‑star place, and the bathroom had a shower that felt like a spa—cheap, but the water pressure was strong, and the tiles were clean enough to make you forget you’re in a hotel. I also discovered a small but functional kitchenette, which came in handy for making a quick coffee and a sandwich after a day of wandering.

When I called the front desk for a recommendation on where to grab lunch, the staff suggested a tiny café on Gdańsk’s Apartament Angielska Grobla 139 street corner, where the owner, a woman named Marta, sells homemade pierogi that are still warm from the oven. I followed her advice and ended up at a table by the window, watching the river traffic and listening to the distant chants from the cathedral choir. The pierogi were a hit—soft, with a hint of dill that reminded me of my grandmother’s kitchen. I also learned that the best time to visit the nearby Gdańsk Old Town is early in the morning or late in the evening; the crowds thin out and the cobblestones look like a secret path. In the afternoon, I took a stroll to the Motława River promenade, where the noise level dropped to a calm murmur, and I could inhale the scent of fresh baked bread from the bakery on the opposite side of the street. The hotel’s location meant I was within walking distance of the main train station and a short tram ride to the sea, but I still liked that it didn’t feel like I was in a tourist trap.

The only downside was the small balcony—though it was a nice touch, it was only big enough for a single chair, so if you’re a fan of wide-open views, you’ll want to bring your own portable speaker. The Wi‑Fi was reliable, which is a blessing when you’re trying to map out the next day’s itinerary. At night, the streetlight was a steady glow, and the building’s thin walls kept the noise from the street at bay; you could almost hear your own breathing. Overall, I’d say Apartament Angielska Grobla 139 is a solid, personal place that feels like a home base rather than a hotel

  • Sylwia from United Kingdom – 25 August 2023 (9/10)

A very nice new flat with all the amenities you may need during your stay. The place is 5mins walk from the Old Town with several good restaurants and cafes nearby and a small convenience store just outside the main entrance.

What could be improved: The street outside is VERY noisy and the only downside to this property especially during summer months when you keep the balcony door open.
