Apartament 52 Old Town Overview

Apartament 52 Old Town sits right on ul. Garbary, a cobblestone stretch that feels like a secret alley in the heart of Gdańsk’s Old Town. I remember stepping out of the taxi and feeling the familiar scent of sea salt and fresh fish from the nearby fish market – the one on ul. Rękawica, where the vendors know your name before you even say it. Check‑in was surprisingly smooth; the front desk was a small, charming room with a window that overlooked the bustling square, and the staff greeted me with a warm smile and a quick tour of the building. They handed over a keycard that worked for both the room and the communal balcony, where you can look out over the old stone walls and hear the distant clatter of the tram.

The room itself is a cozy 20‑square‑meter space that feels more like a home than a hotel. I tucked my suitcase into the neatly made bed, and the linens had that slightly crisp texture that just says “clean but not sterile.” The Wi‑Fi was fast, which is a relief for travelers who still need to send that photo of the sunrise over the Motława to their friends. The bathroom, a little square of glass, had a rainfall shower that felt like a mini spa – honestly, it was one of the best showers I’ve had in a city apartment. I liked the small touches, like a set of local polish soaps and a tiny sketch of Gdańsk’s skyline on the mirror. The view from the balcony was a mix of old brick buildings and the modern glass towers rising in the distance, giving a sense of Gdańsk’s layered history.

Parking is a bit of a challenge – there’s a small, private lot one block north, but you’ll have to pay a bit for it, and the gates can be a little finicky in the evenings. Noise-wise, the hotel is pretty quiet; the street tends to be lively after 9 p.m., but the building’s thick walls do a good job of muffling the chatter. In the summer, the wind from the sea can drift in through the balcony, bringing a salty tang that’s oddly comforting. If you’re visiting in the off‑season, you’ll find the area quieter, with fewer tourists and more locals strolling around. The only critique I’d mention is the small size of the minibar – next time I’ll just bring a bottle of wine from the local shop on ul. Spichrzowa. Overall, Apartament 52 Old Town feels like a home base that lets you soak in Gdańsk without the touristy fluff. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself recommending it to friends without having to rehearse a script.

Reviews of Apartament 52 Old Town

  • Anna from Czech Republic – 4 February 2025 (10/10)

Great location right in the centre. Clean apartment, nice bathroom, big windows. Easy communication with the host. Comfortable bed (the mattress is hard but I prefer that).

What could be improved: – There was only one blanket for two of us, and it seemed quite small. Luckily we found more bed linen under the bed, hopefully the host did not mind that we took them.
    – The street can be noisy at night, but this can be solved with ear plugs.

  • Kullberg from Sweden – 16 December 2024 (10/10)

Had everything you need and close to everything

What could be improved: Pretty noisy from the outside

  • Jolanta from United Kingdom – 19 November 2024 (9/10)

Clean, tidy, nice apartment in the old town of Gdansk. Very good location, close to the public transport.

What could be improved: There was single duvet instead double. shower very small and you have to be quick while taking shower as it gets cold after few minutes.

  • Tat from United Kingdom – 15 September 2024 (9/10)

The location was perfect. The apartment had everything we needed.

What could be improved: Nothing to fault but a full length mirror on the wall would have been a bonus.

  • Nicola from United Kingdom – 5 December 2023 (10/10)

Location was amazing, especially for the Christmas markets. Literally a few steps away from the apartment and your in the main street of Gdansk old town. The apartment is compact but literally has everything you could need, shampoo and conditioner were provided as well as washing up facilities. The price was amazing too, we will definitely be returning.

What could be improved: Nothing! The only thing I would say is that there is a lot of street noise at night but it didn't bother us. Also the apartment was on the third floor up a steep spiral staircase which would be an issue for anyone with mobility problems.

  • Peter from United Kingdom – 24 October 2023 (10/10)

Fantastic apartment with everything you will need for your stay in a great location.

  • Thomas from Germany – 3 July 2023 (10/10)

Clean, tidy, nice apartment in the old town of Gdansk. Comfortable bed, little kitchen, everything was fine.
Perfect located – 3 minutes to tram, 1 minute to supermarket, 1-15 minutes to all bars and restaurants in old town.
Extra plus: I forgot my keys in the apartment. My hostess send them immediately back to my flat in Berlin.

What could be improved: Because of its location in the old town with all the bars it can be very loud on Friday and Saturday night. So I recommend to wear earplugs while sleeping.

  • Mariosfienti from Italy – 15 February 2023 (10/10)

    perfect central location
    kind owner

What could be improved: there is no wardrobe to be able to empty the suitcase

  • Simona from Lithuania – 23 October 2022 (10/10)

It is nice place to stop in Gdansk Old Town near the City Gates. There is a comfortable apartment for a couple, there are all the necessary household appliances.

  • Stela from Lithuania – 31 August 2022 (10/10)

The place is in the middle of the old town, it was bright and clean.
